"Meanwhile a council scrutiny panel has been reviewing the use of the park and ride service.  Thepanel, chaired by Cllr Pauline Murphy (Lab, Efford and Lipson) has considered everything from concessionary rates to parking charges."

Should this come to pass it would really be another nail in the coffin for what is right and fair in this country.

Council tax payers forced to pay extra for park & ride to ensure that private individual can sell his car park. Jesus wept.

That would appear to be about the size of it. The reluctant one sure knows how to manipulate the village people.

I think there are a few on the council that are well aware that they have been sold a pup and are very happy to have been sold it!

One day the cork will pop on these shenanigans and when it does the putrid aroma that is released is going to stick to quite a few!

Three crashes on Outland Road, Plymouth, in one day,  so what is the Council doing? puting more cars down Outland Road

Emergency services dealt with three crashes with yards of the same location on Outland Road on Saturday.

In the first a man was taken to hospital with injuries after an incident involving a car and a pedestrian in Outland Road at 11.30am.

A police spokesman said: "We are treating the incident as an assault using a vehicle and a woman from Plymouth has been arrested."

One lane southbound was closed near the scene.

Det Insp Jon Phillips appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Phillips said the man's injuries were not regarded as life-threatening or life-changing.

He added a woman in her 40s had been arrested and was being questioned at Charles Cross police station.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting log number 300 of Saturday November 9.

Later an elderly man and woman were cut free from their wrecked car after a head-on crash in heavy rain at the same busy city junction.

The man, believed to be 92, and the woman were taken to hospital after fire crews removed the roof of their Vauxhall Astra.

The car was in collision with a Citroen DS3 at the crossroads where Weston Park Road and Ham Drive join Outland Road in Peverell.

Another woman, the driver of the Citroen, managed to free herself from the car and was also taken to hospital after the accident just before 6pm yesterday.

Police said none of the casualties was thought to be seriously injured.

Two crews from Greenbank took about half an hour to cut the roof from the Astra.

The elderly man and woman were then removed from the front seats through the space on spinal boards.

Crew commander Toby Hanks said the pair were conscious and were being reassured by paramedics and firefighters throughout.

He said: “They were not physically trapped, rather they were medically trapped as it were. We could have done the rescue faster if they had been in a critical condition but we wanted to make sure they were comfortable and keep the rain off them for as long as possible before we moved the roof.”

Spinal boards were slipped down the back of their seats and the pair were eased out into waiting ambulances.

Police later said none of the trio’s injuries were thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Officers directed traffic away from the scene, causing long delays.

The road was reopened just after 10pm. Police treated the accident as serious because of the age of the casualties and started a full investigation.

Finally at midnight police say a car 'ploughed into the back' of another near the same junction in Weston Park Road leading to at least one of the cars to be written off.

Sergeant Ryan Canning said a man had been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

And there will be more to come as outland road struggles to cope with the increased traffic when the clusterfuck is built.

Hang on Angry - I thought the stand was too small (meaning less people), that people don't want a cinema etc. (meaning very few people) and the whole development is doomed to fail. How is that going to increase congestion? Linking an accident to the HHP development is tenuous to say the least - the article has stated that it was probably a drink driving incident. Accidents happen.
Plymouth, for it's size, isn't that bad in terms of congestion.

I think that Angry was referring to the cinema, hotel, skating rink and fast food outlets. The grandstand would more or less only be used on Saturdays when traffic is considerably lighter.

The road layout of Outland has coped with 28,000 crowds before, and hasn't changed immeasurably in 30 years.
But its a fair point about the access roads, entry and exits to the Icerink, Carparks and lord knows what else, that really would wreak havoc with the traffic flow.
The way i see it is that the Football club is indigenous to Outland Road ....it slows things up but its been proven to be workable over the years, whereas Brents eyesores simply will not fit in.

I think these days when Argyle had 28,000 crowds the fan walked or used public transport, especially on the football special.

With the vast increase in traffic the new development will bring, it will probably reduce the accident rate. The traffic jams will be so big that people won't be driving fast enough to have crashes.

Plan to introduce fees at park-and-ride car parks

PLYMOUTH drivers could be asked to pay to park at park and ride sites in the city, under proposals put forward by a city council committee.

The park and ride car parks – at Milehouse, the George and Coypool – are free at present, with motorists paying to use the park and ride buses.

But members of a city council scrutiny panel have now agreed to recommend that parking charges should be introduced at all three sites.

The idea would have to be discussed by the council's Cabinet before it could be enacted.

The move comes after the council last month said it wasn't planning to introduce parking charges at the park and ride sites after some motorists feared that was the plan.

The question arose because of ongoing parking charge consultation in the city, which some thought would see park and ride parking charges introduced.

Councillors have now decided parking charges should be brought in at the sites, and will recommend the proposal gets a full debate.

Under the scheme, pensioners and other concessionary pass-holders would have to pay to park – but the panel ruled out a plan to make them pay to use the park and ride buses.

Cllr Pauline Murphy, the panel chair, said charging for bus travel would leave the council open to legal challenge.

She said the aim of the parking charges should be to cover the annual £130,000 cost of maintaining the three park and ride car parks.

Cllr Murphy will now bring a report with the recommendations to the Cabinet.

Councillors recognised that by introducing parking charges at the Milehouse car park they were likely to increase the pressure on the Life Centre car park.

But they said that was a problem for the Life Centre operators to deal with.

No chance of anyone 'local' pointing out that without the need for jimmyboy to lease 'his' car park, none of this would happen ?

So yet another favour for Brenty via the back door, only this time it will be donated by car drivers. Is there no end to this greed!

While i appalud his effort to stop this i fear it will be in vain considering Brent will be out of pocket if everyone carried on parking in the free park and ride carpark and not so much his pointless toll booth one.
