A Plymouth first..... A Mini Bus Station with a directors box? Geddon BL Get it built! It not a Bus station, it an intercity coach station. The entrance is more then two coaches wide and if the driver's cannot turn into the coach station from Mayflower Street they should not be behind the wheel. |

| The pig on the farm makes me laugh, he going on about the food outlets (restrauranrts) that will take trade away from local bussiness. How many restrauranrts were in his plans for the civic centre and art centre? |

| The civic centre will have
A bar and roof terrace under the distinctive “butterfly” roof, and a restaurant on the floor below that
A 4star hotel
New restaurants will overlook Royal Parade.
The art centre will have three restaurants on the ground floor, galleries and exhibition space, and two small cinemas. |

| Please don't spoil the Pigs argument with a few facts. I'll have you know that Brent's restaurants pose no threat to nearby establishments - cos he never builds any! |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]There are obviously arguments to be had but the City Council (like it or not) seem to have a cohesive plan for the City Centre - which is surely a bigger economic powerhouse than Home Park will ever be. But then again I'm just a closet Exeter fan. |

| p.s. I'm also going to take a punt tat the planners have thought about the entrance to the coach park being wide enough and easily accessible for coaches |

| p.p.s. looks like James Brent's chauffeur got the wrong location for the entrance to the coach station - ho hum bit much basing a considerable amount of one's argument on a false presumption for about 20 pages of bigging up Brent (see Graham Clarke's and Stuart C's replies) [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| p.p.p.s. this report [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] through it's hundred odd pages considers a multitude of factors - way beyond what is good for Argyle and James Brent - including the ease by which a coach driver can park up |

| As I understand it this government passed a law a while back cutting much of the red tape surrounding planning applications so that the might of private enterprise could be unshackled leading to new developments, jobs, prosperity and, as a result of more competition, better retail and leisure outlets for all.
It was quite controversial because it more or less removed many of the criteria a council could apply to turn a planning application down.
One of the many delicious ironies attached to all of this is Chris Webb's role on the electioneering staff for a Conservative candidate who, no doubt, would never even countenance going against a party heavyweight like Eric Pickles's policies lest he be shown as being disloyal.
In fact, if the ideology holds, won't competition between British Land and Akkeron eventually lead to the best scheme getting funded and, hence, getting built simply because market forces insist that this must be the best outcome and, of course, as someone once said "you can't buck the market".
Something I'm sure all proponents for the independent, entrepreneurial types firmly support and believe. |

| I had the misfortune to spend 2 hours at Bretonside today - 2 coaches came and went, and none were parked up. The highlight was the announcement 'Welcome to Plymouth' in six languages every 20 minutes - especially when it coincided with the arrival of the bus from Liskeard. |
