| Brilliant post from ejh over there. What is in it for brents boys? A stupid title? A false position on the board? Astonishing how quickly some people will sell themselves out for a bit of power.. Disgusting as well really |

| The people who like it are either arse-lickers or they just see it as looking better than how it does now. No real thought about where this projected £1-£2 million is actually going to come from.
As EJH says that statement would be ripped to shreds on Dragons Den but Janners enticed by a spangly new look don't want to think about the future. These are the people who will moan like feck when they can't get a ticket for an FA Cup tie in a couple of years time.
Chris Webb just gets worse. Greenarmy grandstand? feck off Webb you tw@t. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been offered an Akkeron pension while larrieu gets a whip around from Pasoti. |

He will probably name the stand after them no doubt. When the kids (as its mainly them and FV that are backing it along with the GT and PASB) grow up they will cringe at all of this and realize how fickle and naive they were. You only have to look on the herald website at the comments section to see how silly some are. As i said before and many times if this new stand could be improved on (aswell as the additional seating being added tot eh three other stands) to take the capacity to one that will satisfy championship football then ill be happy but it doesn't and cant so what is the good thing about it? |

Wow. It really is becoming a struggle between decent, thinking Argyle people and the small minded, self promoting village types. We all have the club in our blood but if these dimwits prevail, there will be no dream to keep alive. |

| I see Mr Angry's waded in now, another self proclaimed superfan that lives on the other side of the world and doesn't attend matches, seldom did when he lived on this side of the globe and a few days ago didn't even know that Phase 1 couldn't be expanded! You gotta laugh! |

| It's just so damn depressing. James Brent arrogant dismissal of all concerns raised was no surprise. I am on twitter and the amount of driveling sycophancy that keeps popping up is making me ill.
I assume there will be a private room, with a vast panoramic window just for him and his buddies. There they can stare out at their cinema, ice rink and retail units. Lips will quiver, a tear will roll down their cheeks. Comes with the added benefit that being in the stand, means you don't have to look at the bloody thing. |

| Depressing is the word. Fortunately I'm old enough for nothing about Plymouth Argyle Football Club to get me too down, as Pokey said earlier, there was a time in my life when everything revolved around it and it was fun. Not now.
I think my team now is the Cape Town based egg chasers the DHL Stormers. I was there a couple of weeks ago in a 40000 fervent crowd and I was the first leaping out of my seat when we scored a try. The city is trying to persuade them to move to the beautiful World Cup stadium on the foreshore but they won't leave their spiritual home of Newlands, where the main stand doesn't have 2 tiers, or even 3 but 4. Amazing what some people can do.
I think I'll leave my football club to the village idiots who have so successfully inserted their snouts in the trough, they're welcome to it. |

| I also feel nothing but sadness that this is happening today. Disappointment that any new dawn promised by the exit from administration hasn't materialised and we seem to be back to fans being ignored (albeit under the guise of greater communication) and extreme disappointment that it now looks as if many fans are willing to accept being sold short by the suits. Thankfully I have many other things in my life than Argyle.
First post by the way so hello to you all. |

Funny that, they were applauding it and looking into Todd's eyes, he was a real fan you know! The anger will kick in soon! |

| Thats it for me, time out enough is enough whats the point anymore, if this is the height of our ambition. Well done to the scumbags that have cosied up to Brent , you will swim in a lake of fire for this treachery. My 25 years of attendance is now officially over. |

| Spinning - not turning.
I have a question - I believe that there are c.4k people who are members of the Club. Did the club seek their opinion on the new development - surely this could be done given that names / addresses / email etc. is held? They would not have liked the results methinks.

- How can I structure all my thoughts together on this one rather than just a stream of consciousness. Well I'll do my best:
- A great 4 days of on the pitch news and now this. Depressing. Only Argyle. - The one thing I will say for the stand is I think it does look nicer aesthetically than the last design. But I'm not bothered too much about aesthetics when this stand completely kills any chance of us ever making it as a Premier League club and quite possibly at a Championship club too. -And I was busy on the morning of the feedback meeting but I've given plenty of feedback by other means and trust me not just on forums.
I think that last sentence is the point that hasn't much been said. Not only does it put the final nail into the coffin of the Premier League dream for good, I think the days of us having a few years in the Championship and slowly yo-yoing between that and League One are gone too. So OK, we could make a million or so more in sponsorship and conferencing revenue- if we're lucky that is, I wouldn't take those figures as gospel. Whatever revenue we'd make from that, I think we'd more or less lose from having a lower average crowd when we were back in the second tier which would ostracise us even more compared to the rest of that league.
It's so so Plymouth and Argyle sadly. Always settling for second, third and 4th best. Someone said on here a few days ago that this city could and should be the English Barcelona but perennially held back by lack of vision, drive and ambition. All I can see us ever being now is a predominantly League One side with the occasional foray into the Championship. The only caveat of hope for me is that a football ambitious owner takes us over at some point in the medium-long term future and moves us from Home Park. That's the only way I can ever see the dream being realised now.
Why can't we be Reading? Hull? Swansea? Brighton? Cardiff (Except the red)? They've all had the social mobility to get where we are now to the top. It's just a small-time attitude from the owner of the club again I'm afraid. Plymouth is the 12th biggest city in England. It's a beautiful place with amazing surrounding areas- but its political leaders and club owners have never had the wherewithal to take it where it could be. It has always been the slow and sleepy city that's behind the rest of the world and nothing nails that quite into the ground like this stand. It's not just the fact that it's a 17,000 stand it's that its capped at a 17,000 stand. Literally no other club of our history, size and potential would consider such a restrictive development. All other clubs that we could have been like Southampton, Norwich, Reading etc were all the same size or smaller than us before the ambition kicked in. If we ever had a full season towards the right end on the Championship with a football-ambitious owner, I can only imagine what the stands would be but no-one's ever tried it. The fact that so many people were comparing us with Darlington highlights the (just in my humble opinion) false class consciousness of our own position. We're not in the same sphere as Darlington, we should be on a par with or bigger than Brighton and Reading. Even Wigan have had 8 solid years in the top flight- yet Argyle go and build this. The city that acts like a village.
I'll say something now that won't be popular with a few others in my 'anti' lobby but I feel it needs to be said. The personalisation and name-checking in this debate doesn't do anyone any good. It just leads to tedious back and forth rubbish that takes it right away from what actually matters: this stand. It's not healthy that personal conflicts are brought to the fore.
Is there anything that can be done to stop the stand in this format? Serious ideas anyone? I will be sending an email to Akkeron, the Herald, local councilors etc giving my position on it all. What else is there? Absolutely gutted- I said that on the pitch I was as happy as I'd been in quite some time. I stand by that- after all, as the gaffer said it will be the best stadium in League Two and it's no less than we need right now. The short-term immediacy is looking good, make no mistake. However, off the pitch as far as long-term plans go, I feel incredibly disappointed about our ability to ever become what I believe we should be. If this does go ahead, I'll still go to to games, I'll still enjoy it with friends and I'll still go mental when we win. I may still even sit in the stand a few times- I'll be no less in love with Argyle and football on the whole than before. Still, it won't change that for me a tiny little bit of it has been spoilt: the hope that we could ever reach the Premier League, at least in in Home Park.
Today could be the day we look back on as the day the dream died. *applauds* |
