PostSubject: Re: Who's next ? (Next Argyle Manager)   Who's next ? (Next Argyle Manager) - Page 6 EmptyFri May 03, 2019 1:07 pm

There is a new intriguing name in the betting for Plymouth Argyle’s managerial vacancy.

Jocelyn Gourvennec, currently the manager of bottom-of-the-table French Ligue 1 club Guingamp, was priced at 16/1 by Sky Bet on Friday morning but was later cut to 10/1.

That makes the 47-year-old the third favourite in the market, which is still led by Ian Holloway at 5/4 and Bristol Rovers boss Graham Coughlan at 11/8.

Brittany-born Gourvennec played as a midfielder for a number of top French clubs, such as Rennes, Nantes, Montpellier and SC Bastia.

He also had a spell at Marseille and was in their team when they lost 3-0 to Italian side Parma in the 1999 UEFA Cup final in Moscow.

Gourvennec was manager of Guingamp from 2010 until 2016, which included leading them to a Coupe de France success in 2014.

He then had a two-year spell with Bordeaux before returning to Guingamp last November.

Guingamp are bottom of Ligue 1 with only five wins from their 34 games this season and they are nine points from safety with only four games to go.

I wouldn't mind someone leftfield like this. Experienced top flight French player whos won the French Cup as a manager and has managed in the Europa League. He would almost certainly know of lower league French players who would be up to Larrieu and Friios standard. Dont know what made him a candidate so well see.

Im surprised nobody has mentioned Pullis as Argyle fans seem to love speculating about former players and managers. If Boro dont make the play offs tomorrow I should think his days there are numbered. They need to be back in the PL. I dont think for one minute hed drop down as far as us again but I thought he would be getting mentioned.

Pulis likes a big budget.  There is zero chance of him managing under hallett.

Gourvennec, Timar. Maybe.

A European manager would likely bring in some continental flair and unknown quantities, which would be a tad different to what we are accustomed to.

No to Pullis.

Timar gave his all on the pitch, universally liked by the fans , would help to heal the divide between the fans,

He knows the values of the club , where we should be, he's an up and coming manager, possibly knows Nance and the rest who are still here ,

I think we should give him a chance ,

No to pulis , Hollowords, luggy, etc.

It's just an assumption , but after two bad starts to the season, SH must have been thinking a change needs to happen and obviously thought it could wait till summer , didn't think we would fold as badly as we have,

He gave Adams a budget last summer and he spunked it on shite.
Also backed him with Jones,Oscar and Anderson who have rarely been used .

Why throw more money after bad at Adams ,

We are lucky that he didn't have chance to waste money on an Mpenza , tarribo west type signing.
