Don't be silly.
But apart from manifestos, appearances in the media or prejudice, how else are we going to base our voting intentions on? The alternative is for a party to get some handsome bloke or fit bird posing in front of a montage what is currently tickling the nation's fancy and say "Vote for us". Cynical I certainly am but even I think the parties have more to offer than that.

Let's see how the Lib Dems (who pledged to freeze VAT, protect EMA, reform the House Of Lords and scrap university tuition fees) get on next time before we pass judgement on whether parties stick to their manifesto commitments or not.
Much easier not to have a manifesto and make it up on the hoof.
BTW I largely share Gob's critique of Labour.
Why not register a protest by going Green or Raving Monster Loony? Why UKIP?
I can't for the life of me see why anybody would vote UKIP at all. The entire party is predicated on the lie that we can be independent and go it alone. We can't, won't and never have. It's just completely incoherent nonsense.

No point wasting any energy worrying about UKIP.
They will be very lucky to get one seat in the next general election. They can however influence the result, by taking votes off the Tories.... So... if you are pro EU, Vote UKIP, the more UKIP votes the greater chance of a Labour majority, no EU referendum.
Good news for those of a left leaning persuasion. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Labour victory next election, but not enough for a majority, possibly leading to a lab-lib coalition.

The reason that UKIP are getting the support that they are is because membership of Europe is too costly, just works for the boys clubs in the member states and in reality is the Northern Arm of the USA. Federalism is only going to help the big businesses and ultimately lead to WW3, how can you possibly defend a system like that?

Labour will never be elected with Ed in charge. He just hasn't 'got it'. His brother came across much better.

With Ed Milliband representing a union constituentcy.....& the unions funding a greater part of the parties finances....what chance has Ed Milliband got of winning a general election......ziltch comes to mind....unelectable...... and with Ed Balls playing his robin roll ......they should be on the halls comedy circuit.....Cameron must be so glad that the dim-wit Milliband got the job......only of course because the union vote swung it his way.
With Clegg selling his soul for a Deputy PM ....non-job.....his party have given away any realistic chance of being taken seriously.
That is why Nigel Farage and UKIP look an alternative for desperate disillusioned voters who want to make a statement against what passes as party politics at present in this country.

What will be interesting is if UKIP do manage to pull off a shock, will be to see if they really are the racist, homophobic and intolerant party that the main parties, the media and others like to scream and shout about while forgetting to whisper a word about their own appallingly sick records of corruption and racism. If as I suspect and it turns out that UKIP does not have any more demons than the other parties, then the other parties have an awful lot to worry about.
Meanwhile I will wait until the ships start to dock to take on board the black, Asian, Polish, Romanian etc etc. population and return them to wherever it is that Labour and the Tories conveniently say that UKIP will return them. When that happens I may consider voting for Labour again.
Meanwhile, two illegal wars, lies, corruption, deceit and thousands of deaths as well a billionaire ex Prim Minister that is holding up government inquiries by withholding evidence, they tell us that we should not vote for UKIP because they maybe a bunch of nutters!

I agree wholeheartedly with M'learned friends. until we have a proper people's party then we have to put up with clowns electing us more clowns. It does crack me up that Franny can't see that you don't have to support any of them, I am not red therefore I am blue? Makes no feckin sense to me.

What cracks me up about Francis is his seemingly maniacal desperation to coerce people into not voting for UKIP.
Oh for the days when who you voted for was a private issue.

I think that's the crux of it, instead of giving reasons to vote for A N Other party all we are getting are reasons why not to vote for UKIP.
All it adds up to for me is that the other parties have nothing to offer other than a continuation of war, corruption, deceit and greed.

Are people seriously suggesting that voting for this lot is better than voting for UKIP?

That smarmy little shit has made me feel sick to the pit of my stomach since the first time I heard him talk almost 20 years ago, As PM he did more damage to this Country than any other 'leader' I can recall, Including Thatcher !!
The threat of 10 years in jail might persuade him to be more forthcoming.

The Iraq inquiry is four years overdue, maybe if they got their shit together Greg Dyke could have his old job back and get him out of our lives.

Nigel Farage being interviewed on LBC this morning.
He wasn't asked about why he voted against the measures to counter illegal ivory trading but he was asked lots of other stuff.
