| I shall be in sunnier climes this time next week. No doubt much of my time spent at the Bar. In other news, one of my Velux windows appears to be leaking. |

| I hope to be recieving some more sun and not be at the bar much this week. Leaking Velux windows, luxury, I dream of a Velux window even a leaking one. Returned home from the bar about an hour ago. |

| Confirmed. My window is leaking. Problem is, to ascertain said source of leak probably means scaling the roof. In the rain. I could do it tomorrow when it's dry, but no rain = no leak = difficulty in finding source of leak. I could replicate the rain with a hose, I guess. |

| Velux almost always leak due to the slate/tile flashing installation . Usually something as simple as moss build up or even the felt being cut too long, quite the opposite of what you might think. Often happens in heavy rain only. Difficult to diagnose without stripping tiles around the window. Best effected from the inside with the light itself taken out. Straight forward stuff if you understand flashings. |

What he said, The moss is a common one which can be caused by the slate being to close to the actual window a nice 1 inch gap is needed down the side of the frame to allow the water out and this can get blocked by moss. Otherwise check that you don't have a crack in one of the slates, it only needs to be hairline and capillary action will suck water in. Especially important on the row of slate above the frame. If nothing is obvious as WG says the easiest thingis to strip the slate and re do, a mornings work at most. |

I've been out and had a look and there's nothing obvious. I've brushed away a little moss and had a general clean around, I'll see how that goes. Tbh I'm looking at getting the main (original, 90 yrs old) slate roof re-done later in the year. Been putting it off for two or three years, but we had a few tiles slip in the storms and obviously with no felt that means big problems. If I'm still getting a problem with the Velux then, I'll ask them to have a butchers... |
