Lazy git. My Senshyu seeds are two inches high and looking about right. Sown on 24 August. Am trying to avoid importing any more rot. |

Sets work for me as I'll lift them end of May and get my beans in then. No rot in my patch buy from good source and rotate well and you shouldn't get many problems. Have you tried growing your onions on ridges? Bit drier, take away the causes of rot and the rot will go also. Next mission is the garlic, bought some Solent Wight about ten years ago and still growing it, some from bulbs but I grow a lot from the scapes now. Plant the scapes in trays and this year they will grow into small round bulbs then plant out next September and they make real big bulbs of real tasty garlic. |

We always grow our garlic and onions using ridges as the troughs allows the water to run down the rows. By lifting time, you can't see the troughs and rows anymore as the bulbs have 'outgrown' them. This year we grew a soft neck garlic variety, bleddy handsome they are, but I can't remember the name of 'em. Our 'Golden bantam' (I think) sweetcorn is also yummy. I like saving some 'pearl' garlic as it's easy to freeze and therefore easy in the kitchen. |
