One of me favorite stops on the way to the match, I very much hope it opens, sadly and like most pubs these days, I doubt it will.

Here's a guess...

The old landlord had a 12 month lease on favourable terms which has expired. The new lease is less friendly and so he has moved on.

I suspect that somebody else will take it on before Christmas if a favourable lease is available.

The Hyde Park has been shut either just before or just after Christmas for each of the last 3 years.

Even more good news of it does!

How long had the old landlord had the pub SFD?

It used to be my pre and post match pub. Then it went a bit rubbish. How I never got run over trying to get across the road I do not know. Beer must make you invincible.

I don't know.

I do remember being very surprised that the pub shut a year or two back in between Christmas and New Year. A friend of a friend knew the then landlord, who had more than one pub, back then and he closed because the lease, which he had taken on 12 months earlier in time for the New Year was up. He moved on because the new rent/lease got too expensive for him to renew.

I guess that similar has happened now with the current ex-landlord having got in just before Christmas of last year to hit the ground running when the pubs are fullish at Christmas, and has left now, for the same reasons.

The Pub companies dangle a cheap 12 month lease to get new landlords in all the time and then when that 12 months is up they increase the price leaving the landlord with a decision to make. If the pub is busy enough then the landlord stays and if it isn't then he can't afford it and it is time to move on.

I'd guess that the flat option is some way off yet.

The Hyde Park was open again yesterday. New landlord. Said he was looking to buy the freehold so I guess he's planning to be around for a while.

Was always a handy pub en route, and yeah crossing that road always seemed like a good idea until your legs reminded you that you weren't Usain Bolt Smile

A few of us used to have a few pints in the Valley Tor? Or something like that. Rough old pub that we liked and one Saturday we walked in on some kind of Gun club going on th Olere. And the guns on show weren't the type that would usually be locked away securely and registered with the Police! Not a gun expert but to me they looked like German Luger's and I always wondered what the owners did with them when they weren't exhibiting them in the pub!

Didn't go in there for a year or two and then we decided to head there again one day only to find that it seemed to have turned into a block of flats.

The Valletort, Jock. I've known rougher.
Was a popular pub back in the 70s and 80s.

Thats the one. Sort of meant grubby rather than rough Laughing but it was a shock to see punters showing off handguns! Had a pool table, decent juke-box and decent cheap beer. Much better than hanging around with the numpties in Noahs Ark or the Two Trees
