| Devonport Dockyard officials have addressed rumours they're planning to shut down its car parks and force staff to leave their cars more than a mile away at Home Park. Speculation arose that hundreds of Babcock workers had been briefed by managing director Craig Lockhart over proposals to ditch allocated spaces and instead push the workforce to park up half an hour away at Argyle and get the bus in. An insider told Plymouth Live the move had been engineered in partnership with the council as it prepares to roll out more resident-only parking zones across Keyham and Devonport. | If you were to look at this with a cynical eye, you might take the view that the incoming Labour administration, having been royally screwed over by Brent in the past, has agreed to this more as a way of putting a bit of a spanner in the works of the Brentral Park mankover rather than it being a practical solution to the undoubted parking issues in Keyham, Morice Town and the like.
Of course you’d have to be, as I say, very cynical about the councils motives. Which I am. |

| I suspect Babcock have a hundred times more pull than Brent. I also suspect in the coming years there is going to be a second tier of parking at the P and R. Even going back to the Tradium days of Dan, a second floor was proposed. Brent also gained permission for an underground park. The council clearly have more activity planned in the whole Outland Dr area and the council depot etc hasn't come into the equation yet, but it shorely will, and is probably one of the areas Brent and Hallett are looking at for their so-called academy |

| If you or I was starting a business down Demport way we would have to provide parking for the workforce. Babcock despite having like a couple of thousand acres down there want their staff to park at HP? |

| Everything is being deregulated for the big boys where parking provision is concerned under all manner of guises. The Berkeley Point "student accommodation" is already converting many of it's pods into residential use, as was always the wheeze. Very handy having minimal parking planning requirements when applying for "student accommodation". Just where is everyone going to park there ? And just after the council promised there would be no more student accommodation blocks allowed, up pops the erald with 650 more going up at the old Money centre/good companions site and environs. Wonder how many parking places will be provided there ? 50 ?

| Interesting development by Badcock, just wondering what the real motive is behind depriving their workforce of parking. |

| Well, the old Post office land by Pennycomequick Stuart Road has just turned into a large pay and display car park, and of course, being a right old trek up the hill to get to the city centre or railway station, the thing is empty, not a car in sight. But that national company aren't daft, wonder what they know that we haven't been told yet. Wink wink, bung us a bit. The Babcock guys and gals are being set up like the NHS staff at Derriford probably, pay to park to get to your work. Hey, in the old days, we used to be taxed at toll gates like Pennycomequick so we could travel. Now they're taxing to travel to work and then also to stop. LOL. Yet another head tax while they reduce tax on incomes. Couldn't be trying to force a lot of low paid oiks off the road, could they ? I suppose they could always rent a bicycle as is the rage these days, and cycle to work in a retro 1960s fashion. Five pounds ! Maybe I could rent my bicycle out. LOL |

| I think the council wants the parking for a residents parking scheme around Keyham and Devonport. It could be that the yardies are parking on PCC land anyway. I lived in Keyham for a bit in the late seventies and parking was nightmare then what with many of the bigger places having turned into flats it must be a lot worse now especially as each family needs two cars and a motorbike. |
