As well as extra places to park, the new car park also offers a shuttlebus to Home Park on match days, plus car washing facilities and food vans.

An amazing programme of open air cinema screenings is taking place in Plymouth this summer - and it's completely free.

The screenings are being put on by CityLets in the new Stuart Road Car Park, by Victoria Park, and last from July right through to September.

With 165 spaces in total, the Stuart Road car park - which opened two weeks ago to the public - is offering one of the lowest rates in the city for motorists.

And now CityLets is making of its fantastic location underneath the old and new railway bridges, close to the railway station itself.

Jack Denman, from CityLets, said: "We are looking to make cinema accessible to the community by offering free screenings.

CityLets aims to create value through events such as this for the people of Plymouth by utilising cool spaces such as the new Stuart Road Car Park under the railway arches."

The car park will be useful for commuters, Plymouth Argyle fans and shoppers

The venue will be under the railway arches at the Stuart Road Car Park on the following dates:

8pm July 21 - Back to the Future

8pm July 28 - Hot Fuzz

8pm August 4 - Forest Gump

8pm August 10 - Snatch

8pm August 11 - Fight Club

8pm August 18 - Pulp Fiction

8pm August 25 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

8pm August 26 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

8pm September 1 - Deadpool

8pm September 8 - The Greatest Showman

As well as extra places to park, the new car park also offers a shuttlebus to Home Park on match days, plus car washing facilities and food vans.

Jack added: "Please note screening times and dates are subject to change, depending on usage when the football fixtures are announced for Argyle, but the films will all be screened on the weekend of the date shown against them.

"For ticket information please go to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

"Also, please note that while the tickets are free, some tickets will be with parking, but paying customers can have up to six tickets for the screening."

Ice rink enabling car parking methinks. I know the Brenties think that parking is a complete red herring just used by the naysayers but I find it very hard to believe that all this extra footfall in HP can be serviced by the park and ride?

I reported on this car park a few weeks ago when discussing park and ride, and dockyard parking issues. Absolutely empty throughout the day, despite their big balloon in the sky. A trudge up the hill to get anywhere near the city centre, or the other way for that matter. Who wants that, especially when you have to pay so much ? I reckon there is a deal with someone that residents haven't been told about, maybe Babcock, given their recent utterances.
I love open air cinema and theatre, another delight that has been scorned and laughed at for years by the gorms that is now trendy, like beards and ripped jeans. But Stuart Road behind the derelict bowling green ain't the place for it. Get yerselves out to places like Newbridge on the moors for good old outdoor entertainment in high Summer nights. They even run dedicated buses for those that need them.

It all sounds wonderful, doesn't it, until you see the walk up the hill, when it's cheaper to park in Looe St for example, on a meter, or park in Sainsburys for nothing. There's already a car park servicing the train station right outside. There's even a hot dog/burger van moved into the car park yesterday, with no cars in it LOL. I suppose they'll sell a cup of tea to the hire centre people but that's about it. They are definitely on a promise of something in the near future. My guess is residents parking is going to be extended throughout the inner city tout suite I also think city parking is the next big earner and the nod has been given. The screw is about to be tightened.
