She's not only attractive but also a really good person. And anyway if I did that she also looks tough and my life would be in danger.

Interesting community meeting tonight with lots of people pulling together and offering help to each other. That's what real communities do & have always done - long before Cameron's crap idea about Big Society!

The meeting skirted around the huge division that has battle-lines drawn between those who want to knock a "temporary" road through the woods (SSSI, heritage site of international importance, peaceful, historical & beautiful) and those that would want to stop it being spoilt. The two main people who want the road are two builders & a woman who wants to get her kids to school more easily.

I think it is Lynn on BBC tv local news this morning, It mention they may move your cars out by boat.

This is in to day Herald

RESIDENTS cut off by a landslip say highways chiefs were warned about subsidence six months ago.

One householder in Calstock blamed Cornwall Council for a "sticking plaster solution".

Villagers living on Lower Kelly in Calstock are coming to terms with a Christmas Day landslip when a section of the road fell down the banks of the Tamar after prolonged heavy rain.

Cornwall Council has agreed to pay for hire cars for those whose vehicles are cut off by the landslip, Cllr Dorothy Kirk told The Herald last night.

About 35 homes are affected, in Lower Kelly, and some 20 cannot get their cars out, Mrs Kirk said.

Engineers met about 25 villagers on Saturday and the road is due to be inspected again today.

Resident Ian Craft said he warned Cornwall Council in June that the road was showing signs of subsidence.

"I told them the road was looking like it was slipping and cracks were appearing in the retaining wall. I told them something should be done about it."

He praised the council response to the landslip and ward councillor Dorothy Kirk but said more could have been done to prevent it.

Mrs Kirk said last night that she had only heard about Mr Craft's fears after the event.

"If it's so – and I have no information beyond hearsay – then I am very sorry."

She said that in the meantime the council had agreed to pay for those whose cars were trapped by the landslip to have hire cars.

In the longer term they were looking at other options, including taking the cars out by boat along the river.

She said they were also taking steps to help Calstock Boatyard, which has been cut off.

"We have also checked with the emergency services, who are making sure they will be able to deal with any emergencies there."

She said the council would also make sure residents could get supplies of heating oil.

"We must ensure that no one goes cold or hungry.

"It is going to be a long job fixing this."

She said residents who live immediately above the slip had been evacuated but their homes were now deemed to be safe.

However, engineers were to examine the slip again today.

A granite wall which collapsed had formed a kind of buttress, holding up the rest of the hillside.

"I have heard no fears expressed that more rain will make it worse," Mrs Kirk said.

Residents were meeting last night to decide how they would respond to the crisis.

Mrs Kirk praised them for their community spirit.

Lyn Edwards lives in one of five homes immediately behind the collapsed road.

Families were evacuated from their homes at first but later returned. One of the homes has reportedly developed fine cracks.

Mrs Edwards said she was still waiting for a full structural survey of her property and did not know whether it would be carried out today.

She added: "There has been a sticking plaster job since the problem was reported. I know we can't predict exactly what was going to happen, but I think they put down some tarmac or something."

lol! Sounds like the blocks are too expensive and your road is now officially Imminent.

And in breaking news it seems that James Brent is taking on the repairs for no cost to the residents but the council are signing over the freehold of all their houses to enable the deal.

Gosh, with all this positively non-mundane talk of structural collapses, this seems like the right thread to announce another structural collapse - of one of my back teeth.

Emergency dental appointment later this afternoon.

I can't over-emphasise enough how much I hate going to the dentist.  Sad

In amongst all the bad news of roads collapsing and teeth having to be treated, I'm pleased to interject some good news. The new (to me) Dyson works fine.

Although I did manage to open the dust thing before I got to the bin, so all the stuff it had picked up ended up back on the floor again.

Amoxycillin, Mother's prescribed distalgesics, and Henry Westons Vintage.

That will be my cocktail of choice tomorrow night now.

Zyph. You really must deal with your fear of the big man in the big house with the big stick. You only live once, and so do they.

You know what? I'm having a cracking day today. I can still get into my clothes despite the amount I ate over xmas; Sainsburys wasn't busy when I went; I've had my hair done; I found a jumper I'd nearly bought full price was half price in the sales; I've cleaned the top of the stove (just because I felt like it) and now the gorgeous Cillian Murphy's in the room with me (on the radio).

I wonder if any more nice things will happen today?  Cool

Took the small people to see Mary Poppins (a film ruined only by Dick van Dyke chewing his way through the worst cockerney accent ever and the presence of Julie Andrews, who I never liked) at the pictures yesterday (kids' club £1.75 per person innit). They were glued to some of it, especially the singing and dancing, but we didn't make it to the end. Went to my mum's and had a paper aeroplane racing competition instead.

Still, it's on telly tonight.
