As for "our friends" the French: Did you hear George Eustice doing various rounds of the TV stations regarding the issue of fishing licences ? Apparently nearly 1,700 licences have been issued to EU trawlers by the UK Government with no less than 750 of that number going exclusively to the French. Presumably the remaining 950 are handed out in a scrupulously fair manner to the Dutch, Belgians, Danes etc. As regards the boats that failed to be licenced, 50 were boats wishing cast their nets in Jersey's waters while about 50 were those that wished to fish in UK waters.

As an aside, I understand that 90% of haddock caught in Cornish waters ends up on French plates.

The clocks go back this weekend in France, in what was originally foreseen as the last changing of the hour - but EU-wide disputes mean the annual ritual may continue for some time yet.
France moves to winter time this weekend, with 3am on Sunday, October 31st, marking the moment when clocks go back by one hour, giving most people an extra lie-in on Sunday morning.

In place in the EU since 1976, the twice-yearly changing of the clocks has been controversial for some time and in 2019 lawmakers in the European Parliament voted by a large majority – 410 MEPs against 192 – in favour of stopping the changing of the hour from 2021.

However, following the vote, the Parliament specified that each EU member state would decide whether they would keep summer time or winter time.

I believe they're looking into the possibility that some Skippers/owners may have changed boats while continuing to fish as normal without realising that their old log/licence remained with their previous vessel.
