| Henderson had it written all over him that his wasn't going in. Sounds like a few on here have had their hearts broken by England too many times, you can't not be a tiny bit happy after last night though? |

| With all the VAR monitors and personnel watching that match....how come no one picked up the Columbian player scuffing up the penalty spot.....if he had used a spade and pick axe would that of been more noticeable. They should have been down to 9 men before half-time. |

Absolutely. Every chance of going further, who the feck cares if we didn't win by more, or play that well. Thank God for some sanity from you pair. There’s a couple on here that really need The Samaritans on Speed dial. |

| That was a painful 120 minutes.
Thought England would lose on the penalties though, so pleased they addressed that.
Columbia were a dirty bunch.
Sweden will be a tough encounter, but winnable. |

| When Henderson ambled up I said "what the fook is he taking a penalty for?" I thought he was going to miss. Pundits reckons he's only taken one in his life three years ago? |

For me, it is Henderson doing what he would perceive to be the ‘right thing’ - i.e. showing a bit of leadership and putting himself forward to take one. In some respects it’s admirable. But it was the wrong decision by Southgate to let him take it. Lingard should have been on it. But hey, all history now. All we can hope is it is learnt from. Massive Kudos to Dier btw. Apparently Vardy should have been on the last penalty, but tweaked his groin right towards the end of extra time. |

Confidence must be high for next game now, bring it on. |

It was on target and heading towards the corner, perhaps it could have hit with a little more pace and perhaps he could disguised his intentions better, but it was a good save from the keeper ultimately. It was probably a better effort than Diers who's effort was nearly saved, but it went in. Fine lines. |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Maradona apparently gets paid $10,000 a day by FIFA to act as a "Goodwill ambassador", questioning the partiality of their referees and stickign two fingers up at Nigerian dignitaries isn't a good way to hold on to that cushy little number. |

| Just catching up on this thread.
Am in the 'delighted' brigade. It was a ballsy performance by England - thought we bossed the 2nd half of a turgid encounter and were very unlucky to concede in injury time. Also, they could have caved in extra time after that but came back strongly after an initial dip. Hats off, they've achieved what more 'illustrious' England teams before them could not.
I thought Henderson would miss - his body language wasn't right and he hit his penalty too high and too slowly. The difference with Dier's was he kept it low, so even though Ospina got a hand to it, he couldn't keep it out.
Fully behind Southgate and this set of mostly young kids. They'll need to do a bit more offensively against Sweden but they have every chance of making the semi-final.
Oh, and that shootout win released a lot of demons into the night sky for me. I imagine the same could be said for anyone over 40 watching... |

The penalty shoot-out was a joy to watch and I agree that demons were released. Sweden will a tough one, but if England can go into the game with full confidence and play with pride/belief then a Semi-Final spot could be there for the taking. Whatever the outcome is on Saturday, this England team have done ok and it is something to build on for the Euros in 2020. It will be a mad rush on Saturday, off up to Parkway then back again for the England match. |

Me and my mate are getting the 34 up to Crownhill and get to the Tamar for 11 to meet a couple more, then walk down to the ground about 12:15. After will be fun and games. It will be either be the 51 or 34 back to Milehouse or town. I have not been in the Tamar for years and I can't remember if they had a tv in there. Do Parkway have a clubhouse with a bar and tv ?. |

Quite like the hind. Apparently the windmill, a good old classic flat roofer is pretty good too for the football |

| Talking of tv rooftops, here's a snap from a vid taken from a dodgy 2 ft high wall rooftop and chimney while we were watching the last world cup, when Pirlo and co saw to England. Not for the fainthearted and tipsy. Sterling was n n n n n nineteen and showing how poor he was to become. So, who knows the street from said rooftop ? not that difficult.
