After the first quarter is a good time, but big results either way are often indicative of what's in store. More worryingly is Adams has shown yet again he hasn't got any other options apart from his plan A. Also, unusually for him, he appears to be picking some players with team politics in mind. Finding a berth for set players, regardless of suitability in that position is never a good thing. As others have said, Carey's role is a free one or nothing, and is what the player himself prefers. But it is an indulgence that narrows other options. He hasn't the physical attributes to play much else than the creative ballplayer and the new guy's comments of him as a so so full back up in Scotland would back that up. Not all players are utilitarian, in fact very few.
I always thought Kenny Burns under Clough was a good example. Always a so so centre forward, but almost world class as a centre back. There's no point in wasting Carey's attributes.
