| Ticket details for the game against Plymouth Arygle
Southend United’s second Sky Bet League One game at Roots Hall is against another side to enter the division for 2017/18.
After the win over Blackburn Rovers on the first day of the season and Saturday’s heavy defeat at Rotherham United, Plymouth Argyle are the visitors to complete a trio of opening games against newcomers.
The game is also our first kids for a quid game of the season, and we are anticipating another bumper crowd.
The Pilgrims have recently returned to the third tier of English football following their second place finish in League Two last season.
A former Coventry attacking midfielder Ruben Lameiras has arrived over the summer, Joel Grant was brought in from rivals Exeter City, Ryan Edwards from Morecambe plus a few more whilst they still have the influential Graham Carey who scored 15 goals last season.
Blues will be hoping to put another stylish performance in to build on the win over Blackburn. |

Southend as sold 5367 home seats so far according to the stats so Southend think it is unlikely to match the Blackburn gate. |

| Southend fans view on Argyle team
Plymouth Argyle will not be an easy team to overcome. I hope Phil Brown realises, after his remarks about how tall the Rotherham forwards were, that Plymouth's striker Jake Jervis (who scored both goals in their win last Saturday) is 6' 4" tall. That's SIX FOOT FOUR INCHES Phil, and Jervis' striking partner Nathan Blissett is.... 6' 4" too
Not only are their strikers big so are their centre backs Ryan Edwards is 6`3 and Sonny Bradley is 6`5 and he scored 7 goals last season. Just hope we don't play hoof ball on Saturday ! just wonder if PB has a cunning plan to overcome Plymouth on Saturday |

| The height of Derek Adams' team is indicative of how he views the game. For many years I thought Argyle's teams were far too small, right back to, say, the early 80s FA Cup semi final team. Pulis obviously addressed that problem somewhat for a short spell. But, if I'm honest, I don't want to see a team of 6 ft 4 trees. At lower league level it just restricts the kind of game you can play to one basic plan with little regard to entertainment. I was interested in hearing Adams say he thought he would be able to attack more in this division. That made me chuckle a bit. |

| We have Dean Whitestone as the ref for Saturday, we've won our last seven games with him in charge, including four games last season - three of them away. |

| Match Preview: Coughlan looking forward to Pilgrims reunion
Southend United Assistant Manager Graham Coughlan is confident Blues will respond to the 5-0 defeat at Rotherham in the right way on Saturday.
Blues were beaten in disappointing fashion by the Millers last weekend, but Coughlan pointed to the way Sheffield United reacted following the 3-0 defeat Blues dealt them last season.
“They will bounce back,” said Coughlan talking about the squad. “They are professional footballers.
“We got tanked by Rotherham on Saturday and it happens throughout the season.
“It’s an eye-opener, but the players will lift themselves. They know it wasn’t good enough and wasn’t acceptable and they’ve put their own words and own spin on the result. Generally, the feeling from each and every player was the same.
“You just have to take a look at last season we went up to Sheffield United and smashed them, and they learned from it and came down here and that’s a lesson we can take on board.
“We tend to over-analyse defeat rather than when we win a game. There’s always that air of doom and gloom when you get beaten in football because that’s the nature of the beast.
“We were never shouting from the roof tops when we beat Blackburn but likewise we got beat by Rotherham a week later.
“But you take more from a defeat than when you win. Winning becomes a habit, gives you momentum and you carry on, whereas when you get beat you over-analyse things, there’s an inquest and certain things come to light.
“I’d rather be winning than losing but we have a lot to take from it.”
Coughlan comes up against the club he spent an enjoyable, and successful, four years which included two promotions and the Division Two Player of the Year award.
“I really enjoyed the four or five seasons down there,” Coughlan added.
“The one regret was that I believe we could of gone up again and got out of the Championship, but losing the manager and the team not sticking together was a big blow to the football club.
“We could have made history and got into the Premier League and we had the chance to create something unique and go up through all the divisions.
“I look back not with regret but with the thought of we could have done it. |

| Parking in Southend because of carnival
After tomorrow game if you go to the sea front, at 1845 the Southend carnival starts
The carnival will start in Southchurch Park, which is a 10-minute drive from the ground. It then moves along to City Beach on the seafront before its 9pm finish at Shorefield Road.
Car parks at Seaway, Royals Shopping Centre and Tylers Avenue are being advertised as the best options for carnival visitors, so Argyle fans may want to avoid those.
Parking north of Roots Hall will keep you furthest from the carnival. |

| Looking forward to this one. Probably head toward the front for a stroll, grab a spot of lunch and an ale, then stroll to the ground. Always enjoy a jaunt to Roots Hall for some reason. |

| SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown wants to see a ‘backlash’ from his side when they face Plymouth Argyle tomorrow.
Brown slammed Blues as ‘embarrassing’ following last weekend’s 5-0 defeat at Rotherham United.
And he is demanding an immediate improvement this weekend.
“I’m sure Plymouth will be coming here expecting a backlash from us after we got done 5-0 and that’s exactly what we need to happen,” said Brown.
“We’ve investigated why last week didn’t go to plan and why certain individuals didn’t perform.
“I’ve got to the bottom of a few things but as disappointing as it was it’s not the end of the world.
“We’ve lost one game but if we win tomorrow then it’s six points out of nine and it’s been a good start with the two points per game ratio you need for promotion so that’s the challenge in front of us now.”
And victory this weekend would also secure a superior start to last season.
“Last year we took four points from the five games we had in August and we have a chance to beat that already with a good result tomorrow,” said Brown.
“I want us to smash last season’s record but all we’re really thinking about at the moment is making sure we beat Plymouth.”
The Pilgrims were promoted from League Two last season.
And Brown believes they will be tough opponents tomorrow.
“Plymouth are very much a club back on the up,” said the Blues boss.
“Since the chairman came in a few years ago they’ve progressed every year and they have some good players.
“I went to watch them in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night but I’m only really focusing on us if I’m honest.”
However, Brown will not be making too many changes to his starting line-up.
“I certainly won’t be making wholesale changes to the team,” said Brown.
“Seven days before the Rotherham game we had a very good performance and we need to get back to that level.
“One or two are obviously coming into consideration and Rob Kiernan has brought his A game to the party.
“Playing twice in succession like he did last week was way ahead of what we expected but he’s come through that fine.
“He’s in contention and so are one or two others because we need a reaction.” |

| So the striking options are a player from non league or a 1st year pro. Derek Adams must be incredibly frustrated, he deserves more support from the boardroom. Even Fat Dan would get his cheque book out for a striker once in a while. |
