| Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst is wary of a potential banana skin when Town take on Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
Plymouth are currently bottom of League One with 25 points less than Town, who top League One.
However, Hurst is urging his players not to underestimate Derek Adams’ side.
“It’s our 13th league game, playing against a team that are currently occupying that bottom spot”, Paul told the Press.
“For once it probably does feel like we are going into the game as favourites, but you are looking for that slip-up that is going to occur at some point.
“We don’t want it to be on a journey as far as Plymouth is because it will be a long time to think about it on the way back, so hopefully we can extend that run a little bit further.”
As always, Paul has watched footage of the opposition and despite their difficult start to the season, he can see areas of strength.
“They’ve got some players that can certainly pose threats”, admitted Hurst.
“They’ve got their captain back and player of the season available to them, as well as their new signing Toumani (Diagouraga) who was at Rotherham many years ago, so that will have given them a lift going into the game.
“They’ve got some really big threats from any free-kicks or corners. If Bradley comes back in, Edwards, Blissett, Jervis – there are four very tall players there that have certainly scored goals with their heads in the past, so that is something we are conscious of.
“But, we want to cause problems ourselves and at the minute we’ve managed to do that on most occasions.”
It’s nearly a 500 mile round trip to Plymouth, but the Gaffer doesn’t want to use that as an excuse come five o’clock on Saturday.
“For most teams it’s obviously a long trip and Plymouth encounter the opposite when they are away from home”, said Paul.
“Most weekend’s they are probably not back until we are into Sunday, but this weekend it’s our turn to face that task.
“We can’t use it as an excuse. We know it’s going to happen, so we will train early and try and get on the road a little bit earlier to try and avoid being in as much traffic as we can.”
Meanwhile, there was good news on the injury front with only Lenell John-Lewis likely to miss out thanks to his slight hamstring injury.
ARGYLE NEWS
Oscar Threlkeld has been ruled out of Plymouth Argyle’s clash against League One leaders Shrewsbury Town at Home Park on Saturday.
Threlkeld made an earlier-than-expected comeback from a lower leg injury when the Pilgrims hosted Fleetwood Town last weekend.
He started the game at right-back after a two-month absence as Gary Miller began a three-match suspension.
However, the 22-year-old was replaced at half-time after taking a couple of knocks and saying he had soreness in the leg.
Argyle manager Derek Adams confirmed that Threlkeld would not play against Shrewsbury but had no further update on the injury.
Derek Adams has hinted that new signing Toumani Diagouraga could go straight into Plymouth Argyle’s starting line-up against League One leaders Shrewsbury Town at Home Park on Saturday.
The powerful 30-year-old midfielder completed a move to the bottom-of-the-table Pilgrims as a free agent on Monday.
He then played for an hour when an experienced Argyle side beat MK Dons 5-4 in a Central League game at Coach Road, Newton Abbot, the following afternoon.
Diagouraga left Championship club Leeds United by mutual consent towards the end of August and has not played any first team football this season. Adams was asked whether Diagouraga was fit enough to start against Shrewsbury, the Pilgrims’ boss replied: He is, yes. He’s an experienced player and with experienced players they know how to play their way into games.”

| Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams does not accept he is too stubborn when it comes to his choice of tactics.
Adams has primarily played with one central striker this season, despite the Pilgrims struggling for goals and propping up the rest of League One with only five points from 12 games.
There have been calls from some supporters for Adams to include two forwards in his team, with up-and-coming 18-year-old Alex Fletcher getting plenty of mentions.
But Adams refuted criticism he had not been flexible when it came to his tactics at the start of what has turned out to be a torrid season for Argyle.
He said we have tried many formations. Any football person will tell you that.
“We have played three at the back, we have played two up front, we have played four in midfield, we have played three in midfield, we have played one off the striker.
“I don’t think you can be any more flexible than that.”
Argyle’s only win in League One this season came in their second match when they beat Charlton Athletic at Home Park on August 12.
And it does not get any easier for them with the visit of table-topping Shrewsbury Town to Home Park on Saturday.
The victory over Charlton was the only time this season that Argyle have scored the first goal in a game.
With the Pilgrims’ confidence at a low ebb after eight defeats out of the last nine, Adams knows his side must improve on that.
He said: “From my point of view, we need to go and take that first goal, as we did against Charlton. We haven’t been able to do that in any other game.”
Adams had considerable success in his first two seasons at Home Park, culminating in Argyle’s promotion as League Two runners-up in May.
However, it has been a different story at the start of this term and his future at the club has been called into question, especially on social media.
Adams said: “You get criticised every day. As a manager it doesn’t matter what you do, you get positive reactions and you get negative reactions.
“It’s the nature of the business we are in, and it’s the nature of the world we are in.
“It’s not a perfect world. It’s not a beautiful world at this moment in time.
“It’s run by social media where a lot of the time it’s people hiding behind things. That’s just the way the world is.
“If we could turn the clock back 50/60 years then maybe everybody would look after their neighbour, and that doesn’t really happen nowadays.” |

| ARGYLE’S 2-1 defeat at home to Fleetwood made it 10 Sky Bet League One matches without a win for Derek Adams’ Pilgrims.
So, just when you hoped things may get easier, next up for the Greens are unbeaten Shrewsbury Town who currently sit top of League One with 30 points from a possible 36.
Derek, though, knows how contrary football can be, and is hoping bottom of the table Argyle can beat table toppers Shrewsbury.
“They’ve started the season really well and been able to get to 30 points really quickly,” said Derek. “Having a settled team to chose from is important they’ve been able to have that, and momentum as they have been picking up wins; that’s something that in any sport is important.”
Football can change very quickly and teams can get on a run: Derek pointed out one interesting stat, featuring Saturday’s visitors, that could give the Green Army some optimism.
Exactly a year ago, the three clubs that currently occupy top spot in each division all sat 23rd in the league. All pulled themselves up the table, finishing 12th, 18th and fifth respectively.
Derek said: “Shrewsbury, Cardiff and Exeter were all down the bottom of the league last year and its flipped, all of them being top of the league this year. So that’s interesting from a footballing point of view’.”
Derek is hoping that the midweek win over MK Dons, in a Central Keague fixture played at Coach Road, will install some confidence into his side. Ruben Lameiras and Joel Grant each scored twice, with Nadir Ciftci scoring the tother goal, and Alex Fletcher chipping in with two assists.
“I think that score in any game,” said Derek, “with Grant scoring two, Lamieras and Nadir getting a goal it was good from an attacking point of view to get these goals and gives confidence to those players.”
He was also happy with new signing Toumani Diagouraga’s performance in the game, and knows he could be a big asset for the Greens.
“He was the best player on the park,” said Derek. “He was very tidy on the ball and composed, that’s what you get from playing so many games in the Championship. He’s had a number of clubs with a possibility of going too that maybe didn’t suit him. We can give him a platform to go and play, He’s an experienced player and they know how to play their way into games. |

| We're the L1 joke side. Opposition teams and fans all know they're going to win and win comfortably. I doubt games against Argo are even considered proper matches anymore. This 'team' is not League standard, Vanarama South standard at best.
Easy 4-0 win for the Shrews of course.

| Unfortunately for Argyle this is not bottom beats top time, if this match was in March I might be thinking an upset is definitely on but in mid October nah! So no recognisable right back in the squad, possibly a 30yr old not match fit new midfielder, dejected players, e.g Bradley, Jervis who are shadows of their former selves, a manager who seems unable to pull something out of the hat at the moment. And the highest paid player showing constant frustration and lack of form. The only surprise and positive note is Letheren who on paper did look a desperate signing, but fair play to him has pulled out all the stops and for me should earn his place again today as does young Fletcher. Still underdogs can always pull something out of the hat, unfortunately I saw nothing from Wednesdays game against MK youth from a side containing ten professionals that suggests otherwise. COYG THE BRENTMARE CONTINUES |
