Brilliant. "For heavens sakes, we've just encouraged a nation to effectively cut off their own nose to spite their face. We've just made the biggest economic and political decision in a generation in order to settle a squable that started at Eton between 2 schoolboys" |

Interesting to see once again that the turn out in the teachers strike last week was 24.5%. So 3 out of every 4 teachers couldn't be bothered to vote. The turnout for the Maidenhead General Election vote was 73%. Another own goal by Saint Francis. |

Good question. What do you yanks think? I haven't asked any of them... As for the date of the election, I have no idea, just wondered how long you thought your misery would last? But come Election day, I think you will be surprised again, and you will fall into outright depression and gloom when the selection of MP's is chosen along Brexit viewpoints - with the 'outers' prevailing! By this time, half of Europe will be going through their own trials and tribulations and the results in elections in those countries will show that the 'European experiment' is starting to burst at the seams.. You think there is uncertainty now, wait until a few other countries show signs of following Britain. Eurogeddon will be Humpty Dumpty compared to the recent British fall. |

| And...
If we are going to have these stupid images and boring pieces of political propaganda thrust upon us all the time, can whoever is responsible at least do the considerate and right thing and make sure that they fit the page, so the rest of us don't have to scroll across the page to read the stuff from other posters that is actually worth reading? |

Come On You Greens! I can imagine that the Tories, apart from a few dissenters like Ken Clarke, will now reform with the robustness of Wellington's squares at Waterloo. As for Labour, the ordinary man in the street will have (doubtlessly) noted the PLP's continued machinations to not only overrule that selfsame man's referendum victory over big business and mercantile banks, but to ignore his overriding wishes as to whom he would prefer as party leader. Such MP's should tread carefully less their cards be marked for future reference. |

How long do you think that will be?
...and when the day comes, do you think people will vote along 'traditional' party lines or a more straight up and down vote for those either representing 'in' or 'out', no matter what their party affiliation? I'm hoping that there will be an election in October or November and before Article 50 is presented. Lets be real here. Yes, I know that 52% of 72% voted out. That's what, 37% (not much over one third!) of the electorate? All the Brexit promises were broken the next day and just about all of the main Brexiters have done a runner! I would hazard a guess that there are a lot of disillusioned voters out there. I'd like to see parties state Brexit or Remain in their manifestos as well as any plans to invest in the run down areas etc etc. As for voting for your "traditional party" versus "in or out", that's an interesting question. I guess we would see how important Brexit really is to the electorate. After all, many Leave votes were against the government, not neccessarily the EU. It's a real pity at the moment that Labour are in such disarray. Hopefully they can sort themselves out pretty soon. IMO Labour and the Lib Dems have a real chance if they can get their act together! Another point being that every Brexiter has a differing opinion on what Brexit actually is! As for May "Brexiting", do you think that she will really do it? What about looking at the bigger picture. Do we have enough negotiators? Do we have a plan? What is Brexit? In 2017 there are elections in the following countries: Czech parliamentary election French presidential election French legislative election German presidential election German parliamentary election Hungarian presidential election the Netherlands general election Norwegian parliamentary election All of the above countries face rising anti EU movements. What would your negotiating stance be if you were the head of one of those countries? You also have to look back at previous EU related referendums and see what happened. Proposal rejected, changes made, new proposal accepted. Most of the EU countries have the same concerns as the UK. Maybe a deal will be done which makes every country happy! Would it suprise you if May came back waving a piece of paper stating that each country has more power of veto over sovereign matters, a cap on immigration when required by each country, etc etc?? She has saved the day! (Huzzah!) Who knows what will happen! |

I'm hoping that there will be an election in October or November and before Article 50 is presented. Why should there be? Labour used the promise an EU referendum in their 2005 election manifesto in order to win power. When Gordon Brown took over from Blair with just 2 years to go, he not only backtracked on that promise but carried on as PM. So, you've had two Labour PM's in one term of office ... and they both cheated the electorate. If US Presidents serve a four year term in office, I can't see why the remaining four years should be much of a problem for Theresa May. My only problem with May is why she doesn't cut the remoaners balls off and sign article 50 right away. |

I would guess the only disillusioned ones are the remainers and a few of these Bremorse types that only SFD and the Guardian seems to know? You can twist the voting figures around all you like but a 52% to 48% in a vote such as was taken, is pretty decisive. A lot of important things have been decided by much closer votes in governments around the world. Democracy sucks eh? |
