| Another failed akkeron project. Not sure why akkeron continue to act like they will do something on this site, clearly they can't afford to do anything alone, and I would imagine investors would be put off by their failure at HHP and failed deadlines/ hot air spouted from their spokes-people. Have they had planning permission approved at Oldway longer than HHP? |

| First plans
Torbay Council has been advised by Akkeron and Urban Splash that they are on schedule to submit a Planning Application later this year for the restoration and hotel redevelopment of Oldway Mansion in Paignton.
The requirement to submit a planning application within 12 months of the signed agreement was a requirement stipulated in the contract, authorised by the previous administration, which was entered into in August 2010.
If the planning application is approved, Akkeron should be in a position to start on site in late spring 2012. The development agreement obliges Akkeron to use their best endeavours to commence the development at the earliest opportunity, and no later than August 2015 should exceptional circumstances arise.
Urban Splash then pull out
You notice the money was coming from housing being built in the grounds. First phase ongoing but the Council has put the money in a special account control by the Council.
New Planning
The applications go before the planning committee on Monday, April 30. 2012
PLANS have been submitted for a £12million scheme to transform Paignton's Oldway Mansion into a luxury hotel and sheltered retirement flats complex.
Developers Akkeron have put in four separate applications — which are being recommended for approval — to redevelop the site currently used by Torbay Council.
James Brent, Akkeron chairman, said: "Our proposals are the result of considerable work and consultation locally, all focussed on ensuring a long term sustainable future for Oldway Mansion and its gardens, creating enhanced public access and at the same time providing investment and job creation in the Bay."
The first application seeks to build 48 three and four-bedroom town houses within the grounds of the former Singer family home and 64 assisted living apartments on the site of the former 1960s Fernham Nursing Home |

Built by one of the great industrialists of the Nineteenth century but has now fallen into the hands of someone who's ilk oversaw the ruination & bankruptcy of 21st century Britain. |

| Torbay is still looking at the legal side, I think Brent is trying to move before he is force out.
HE would-be Oldway Mansion developer says it wants to take the first major step towards work starting on the multi-million pound project.
It comes after Torbay Council issued a legal notice against Oldway Mansion Ltd, the company set up by Akkeron for the luxury spa hotel and homes development.
In the legal notice the council said it believed a number of the conditions in the development agreement had not been complied with. If the developer fails to comply with the conditions, the council said it can take steps to terminate the agreement and seek damages.
Akkeron responded that it is still working hard on the scheme which includes a new indoor bowls club building.
Now it has announced that it has issued Drawdown Notices to Torbay Council for the next phases at Oldway Mansion
In a statement it said it proposes to start work on these phases in May.
It also confirmed it is continuing to chase Torbay Council to issue the licence which it requires to start some protective works on the Rotunda and Stables at Oldway Mansion.
The company said: “These works are necessary to protect the Grade II listed buildings and further delays will cause additional damage.”
A Torbay Council spokesman said: “We are unable to comment on the Akkeron press release as legal action is on-going concerning a number of breaches to the Oldway Development Agreement that we believe have occurred and have yet to be remedied.”
I think the drawndown notice is the money that Torbay Council have in the account from the land sold for the houses that are nearly built which Brent will use to fund his hotel. |

| Got to love the absolute sponging/leeching cheek of Brent's company issuing more draw down notices on Torbay council. Presumably this is a request for more free money from yet another duped council with the delivery of absolutely nothing. |

Oldway House & Gardens
Having been part of the Torbay Council Working Party concerning this redevelopment the Society were in favour of the final plans which have now been passed by Torbay Council. The retirement flats built by McCarthy and Stone are nearing completion but the start date for development of Oldway Mansion and the other housing is not yet known. This is of great concern to the Society. The McCarthy & Stone development on the Furze

| Anger over 'information blackout' on Oldway
The friends' group set up to campaign for Paignton's Oldway Mansion today blasted an information blackout over its future.
Neither Torbay Council nor would-be developers Akkeron will comment on progress on the multi-million pound luxury hotel scheme designed to restore and protect the mansion for the future.
It is understood negotiations are still continuing over the mansion which used to house Torbay Council staff, and which closed to the public in 2013.
Now Paul Hawthorne, chairman of the Friends of Oldway group, has spoken out about the lack of information available to the public concerning the mansion's future.
Mr Hawthorne said: "It is now eight years since the future restoration plans at Oldway were announced to the public.
"We attended meeting after meeting and were told how the condition problems the mansion faced were so urgent and so considerable only an urgent scheme to convert it to a leisure use with a private partner would save the building in time.
"Here we are now at the end of 2015 without any news of any kind at all.
"Oldway has sat neglected and slowly decaying. Paignton and Torbay have been denied this gem at their heart for so long something must be done now to restore it to us. I hear widespread anger and despair from people on a daily basis about Oldway's plight. People are desperate for news something is being done to make good this situation."
Mr Hawthorne emphasised: "Rather than oppose the scheme with Akkeron to restore the Mansion and gardens the Friends have always supported what has been the only solution proposed by the council. We had always said if the criteria the council have set are met this should go forward.
"What is hard for all to understand is why no decision either way about the development has been made to the public. Oldway remains a truly public space and we all have a right to see it protected, restored and made fully available once again. If plan A is not going forward then we require a plan B — it is inconceivable surely that we will slip into 2016 in this deadlocked situation.
"The current situation is deeply unsatisfactory and I feel the Friends now must call for this deadlock to be broken, and for a plan that we can all be confident will return a restored Oldway to us soon."
Both Torbay Council and Akkeron said they were unable to comment on the progress on the scheme.
The Annual General Meeting of the Friends will take place at Paignton Library on Thursday November 26 at 7pm |

| It's about time the friends of Oldway really got stuck into Brent and the council. No doubt there is a contrived legal stand off and battle behind the scenes, with the Council afraid of racking up high legal fees. Otherwise known as Brent's long grass. Sadly, I believe this press release has been cobbled together to ward off serious questions and complaints from the grass root local community at the Friends' AGM, and hence another 12 months of inactive property speculation and pressure building on the council to cave in. Maybe Akkeron have a person on the inside. Such tactics have been known. Again, very very very dodgy. |

| FRANK SOBEY: Has Oldway gone to the dogs? OUR daily journey through the thickening misty rhetoric which dominates the political landscape is increasingly annoying. That journey is not helped by endless soundbites offering dubious insights which have a habit of distorting an already confusing picture. Too often there is a feeling of hopelessness when it comes to extracting enough information to make sense of an event or intended outcome. Let me give you an example. Last week on the front page you will have noticed the headline 'Anger over "information blackout" on Oldway'. The Oldway is of course Paignton's historic Oldway Mansion which has been empty and deteriorating since 2013. Actually it had been deteriorating for much longer than that! So in my quest for clarity I sacrificed a precious evening and pitched up last week at the seventh Mayor's Forum. Torbay has a population of around 140,000 and so I expected the Riviera International Conference Centre to be heaving. Sadly less than 100 people had turned up and I found this terribly sad. Perhaps those not there had already seen the agenda! The forum turned out to be a cross between a carefully choreographed presentation and a book fair. I have always thought of a forum as a place for debate rather than a showcase, but there you go. One part of the evening certainly caught my attention and that was a question from Paignton resident David Watts directed at Torbay's strategic planning man Pat Stewart about the future of Oldway Mansion. He was asking what if anything was happening and why everyone was being left in the dark. David didn't get an answer from Pat, but mayor Gordon Oliver did thank him for his question. David also pointed out Oldway Mansion is a grade two listed building and Torbay Council has a legal responsibility to keep it in good order.
