| OK. I know this isn't exactly news. The death that is. I told you as much long, long ago. This week (or soon afterwards) it will be finally be publicly admitted.
When it is announced there will be a parallel announcement and PCC will commit to building Argyle a new grandstand!
I don't have further details. That's it.
Maybe it'll be a magnificent two-tiered stand... Maybe it'll finally fulfill Tudor's promise to be a "stadium fit for champions"... I don't know.
There's all sorts of implications... Speculate away! |

| Interesting, SFD. The (whole sorry) saga continues. I wonder how Pbay will announce the bombshell? Noting to see, move along - it's all been swept under that nasty carpet. The truth of the matter is that our new grandstand is immenent. Mr. Brent is on fire with all of his developments, there's no issues absolutely anywhere. In fact PAFC and everything that revolves around the club is in an almost Utopian state of mind. |

| The first thought that hit my mind was that Brent had managed to wheedle even more money out of the council! But I don't know the details.
If PCC picks up the cost of the grandstand then Brent owns a team that rents an asset with enhanced value and potential. He must (surely?) be giving something back but what I don't know.
Hopefully the land he took is being returned but if rent stays the same and his 5 year buy-back remains unaltered...
All interesting stuff, though, ain't it! |

| The pressure should start NOW then, to ensure the Council commit to building a GRANDstand worthy of the name.
If it's the same two-bob token effort Brent was trying to fob us off with, they can do one. |

All interesting stuff, though, ain't it! Council builds the stand, surely the rent would go up? Hopefully they build either just a stand for Argyle or a stand and an arena / ice rink on the back to complement the Life Centre. If just the stand, where will the "continuous ice" ice rink go? How long will it take the council to build it? Just a selection of the many questions this raises. |

| Argyle Trust in the morning has some investigations to start to establish the facts behind this story. |

| I wonder if the council would build the Trust working group's version of a Grandstand? |

| I hope not.
That design was the best that could be done given the confines in place re HHP.
No HHP = Different spec = Better stand!
Hopefully. |

| It needs that sort of stand with more room at the back for all the conference / corporate facilities that JB says we need. Including a proper supporters bar. |

| I'd like to think that, given it will be built with public money, there will be genuine public consultation about what needs to go into the stand.
There is still every opportunity to build a whopping great stand with an intrinsic Ice Arena under it and a supporters bar and other appropriate leisure outlets and so on...
A stand that would, in fact, tick everybody's boxes and not encroach onto parkland in any way.
It's a no-brainer, really.
Just like the HHP plan was.
I'd love to know who the idiot was that said "Yes, James. That'll work." Or is the list so long it'd be pointless? |

| There is the small issue of what is going to fund it? Considering PCC are supposed to be skint. |

| PCC said Brent could build the stand at 3,800 capacity didn't they?
So not entirely good news. PCC and Jimmy have one thing in common - they both have ridiculously low ambition when it comes to the club. |

| If the council do actually build it. It will be small and shoddy, you just know it...
However, as long as there is room for expansion, I could live with that for the time being. |

| It's good news for the city of Plymouth as the HHP development is a truly dreadful idea. Why anyone would want to eat at a restaurant with damp gloomy views of the back of a football stand is beyond me.
And of course its good news for Argyle because we might actually get a decent stand at last.

| Maybe the Trust or someone with contacts could show the PCC this...............maybe it's what they are trying to achieve ? The Liberty Stadium opened in 2005 to provide a home to Swansea City AFC and Ospreys Rugby whilst giving Swansea a facility to be proud of. Driven by the vision of City and County of Swansea Council, the Liberty Stadium was built along with the Morfa Retail Park just a few minutes from Swansea City Centre. Built on the site of the former Morfa Athletics Stadium and playing fields, the 20,520 seat stadium has become one of the foremost sporting venues in the country. As well as two hugely successful sporting teams, we now regularly hold International sporting fixtures, numerous sell out concerts and we provide the home to thousands of conferences and events every single year. The Liberty Stadium continues to grow and evolve as we now look forward to hosting Premier League football for the very first time following Swansea City's promotion in May 2011. I watched Swansea players on Soccer AM talking about their rise to the PL from the bottom of DIV 2 in 10 years. Obviously, mention was made of good management etc but what wasn't picked up, was the impact of a 'new' stadium with room for expansion on the potential fanbase. A groundshare with Albion makes perfect sense, as with Ospreys at the Liberty. A council showing vision for its major sporting clubs. What price Argyle and Albion in the Prem within 10 years ? The potential support for successful Plymouth teams whilst damaged, could be reawakened with ambition both on and off the pitch. Even I'd start attending again.......................as long as the usual, small minded, controlling suspects are kept away from any decision making and the holier than thou bucket rattling is kept under control.

| Great idea but we missed the boat on that sort of major capital project. The money just isn't there for it and neither is the borrowing capability I'd say on PCC's behalf. I'd be surprised if the council didn't have a gap of anything up to £10m a year in terms of affordability that they need to close. They aren't in a position to spend capital borrowing on building a stadium, no matter what the case is for it.
Swansea lucked out big style. Right place, right time, right level of support for both sports (even if only just).
Rather than try and replicate something which events won't allow for, we need to build a coalition to get this done properly. That means looking forward and doing something new, together. |
