Doesn't take much to add value to Gargyle.
The reason why the brakes have come on is that Brent has finally worked out that this deal is not the pot of gold he thought it was, to me it looks a particularly poor development, in the wrong place, in what it has to be said is not exactly a booming area, now general market conditions have moved against this type of development the price tag for the Diddy stand must be looking less like value as each day passes.
One good thing will come from this of course, you anti Diddy stand boys will be able to follow through with your alternate plan to replace the Mayflower with the Mega stand, I shall look forward to seeing the designs with a particular interest in the funding arrangements.
Snigger. . I shall look forward to a ground named after a carry on film star with a collapsing away end and a cravat wielding twat in charge |

I agree with that. There's no hiding the lack of commercial takers, and so much derision from so many fans. However, I'm not one of those that think he'll walk away, as the stadium build must be deeply connected with so many other projects within the park. It's more a PFI development than anything else, so I wonder if both parties are having to re think at a basic level. How else will they get the funding from other interested investors. Things are likely to get economically worse rather than better |

| Brent needs to learn the phrase "less is more" with his HHP and i dont mean the stand.
for me he could make his profit simply by building these
a two tier stand that could be expanded if demand requires it to help boost the overall capacity to 25000 (along with the added seats to the other stands inc)
Ice arena that can home 5000 that can also be multi purpose beyond public use and ice skating shows such as homing the raiders and poss if demand is there an elite ice hockey team, small concerts and conferences etc make it something can be used 365 days as if its just for ice skating it wont make a penny
a few retail outlets that fit in with the park's intentions ie sports n leisure aswell as a food outlet or two hell why not a Cornershop.
and i'll show willing to Brent and allow him the hotel with its corporate lounge but i would include a canteen there as no one wants to stay in a hotel in the midst of nowhere and there is no food on offer
We dont need a cinema especially a imax as they are very overated and hardly selling out in their locations now, A dentist im still yet to be told why we need one there and its not like it will be an nhs one either :S, a school that seems to be homing more courses than city college plymouth yet has no defined status as to what it will be used for and definitely no carpark and certainly no new road. The road that is used for entering the carpark now can be retained as a supply/logistics route.
If Brent uses his head he could salvage this mess and make everyone happy including himself. However, he like money too much to use common sense so the clusterfuck will go ahead and it will die a slow death over the years as a result and we will be stuck with it.

| There's not much to argue against there Angry. The only thing I would be against are the retail units. _______________________________________ I'm one of the common people so says the wife! | What he said ^.
Scrap the school, dentists, cinema and hotel. Make the grand stand actually 'grand' and build a decent sized (5-7k capacity to double up a a concert venue) ice rink - and get a bleddy ice hockey team up and running. Happy days.
Easy, init?

| The Ice Rink is just another example of utter stupidity and short-sightedness. 1200 seats is too big for casual recreational skating or even local galas. But it's also about 2000 short of a realistic minimum for a proper National Ice Hockey team. Brent stated from the start that he had no intention building to a capacity that would be able to accommodate a proper IH team -obviously 'cos it'd cost a bit more, and that's just another example of him doing everything at HHP on the cheapo.
It sucks because I reckon a National Ice Hockey team for Plymouth would have a great chance of taking off. I'd go foreshore.
I just truly hope the whole HHP thing implodes. |

I just truly hope the whole HHP thing implodes. here in nottm we have the national ice arena, where the national team train. the arena for ice hockey seats maybe 3k spectators, up to 5k for gigs and comedy. built onto that arena is the public skating bit, seating for a few hundred and a rink half the size as for hockey. id say 1200 is about right for a fledgling hockey team, after all panthers are the elite and national champions and dont sell out that often. IF the rink happens, get yourself down there, theres far more action and entertainment than at any football ground |

| 1200 may be ok for a fledgling outfit, but the rink ain't being built with any sort of expansion plan in mind. Besides that would be physically impossible, what with it being wedged in on all sides by a mini-stand, hotel and cinema. |

Cottage field could be used for the ice rink extension |

I just truly hope the whole HHP thing implodes. he might not want to start up one but there wont be a shortage of offers to start one up. Also Westpoint home 7,500 which dwarfs the current proposed ice arena so it wont ever attract big ice shows and events here when exeter can be more lucrative. It would be in Brent's interests to build it to 5000 and make a multi purpose arena that can home basketball and other things aswell as its intended purpose ice skating. The reason i dont say build it bigger than westpoint is with the pavillions being regenerated to be bigger and better it would be pointless to do so. |

A PFI? Did you swallow a brochure at your last Socialist Loafers meeting? PFIs are for Public ventures where politicians want to hide the true cost and ensure the paying back falls to the taxpayer somewhere way down the line, this is a commercial development, unless of course PCC is going to take over the whole project, PFIs don't come close to entering into it. While listening to you muppets moaning about what a bad deal the Diddy stand was I never ceased to think that it was just too good to be true, a ten million pound stand for buckshee when the enabling development never had the look of WOW about it and in a time when local Guv budgets were being cut? |
