Ferguson knew Welbeck, Januzaj, Jones, and Rafael couldn't take penalties, that is why he retired when he did.
I have never seen a less intimidating list of penalty takers. None of them have ever taken a competitive penalty have they? All quiet characters, all junior members of the dressing room.
The days of Ferguson and Keane - Giggs, Scholes, Van Nistelrooy, Beckham and Ferdinand. Christ that seems a long time ago, now - big characters, senior players, winners. That penalty list tonight - deary me. It had bottlers written all over it. What on earth was Moyes thinking?

Probably wondering where he will spend the next couple of weeks after he's sacked, Spain's nice this time of year.

We'll he is a young man. If they get 10 years from him then it's a great investment.

LOL - love the tabloids re: Shaw. Chelsea and Utd show an interest and he's now "Saints Wonderkid" Luke Shaw.
Football's cyclical. Liverpool dominated the 80s domestically and that faded away. Utd dominated for longer but it can't go on forever unless you play in a league like La Liga or Scotland. They'll write the season off and start again.
I can see Moyes leaving before they sack him. At Everton, the pressure was so much less - if Everton lose three at home in a row, it's not front page news - at Utd, it is.

You reckon he is going to walk away from a 6 year contract do you ?

he will be given the boot next season if utd dont get off to a great start. Maybe sooner if they fail to qualify for champions league (and no Mata wont guarantee that at all) as that alone will harm utd and its owners major.

I do. It's unlikely he'll need that money - at Everton, he'd have been paid very well.

Only a total idiot would leave a 6 year contract on the highest wages in world football behind him.
This was his one career shot at the top level and he is floundering.

I doubt the decision makers at OT would want to lose face by sacking him at any point this season. It would also undermine Fergusons belief that Moyes was the right man, and there's no doubt Fergie has a huge amount of influence behind the scenes.
They'll all just about be able to stomach writing this season off - especially if they are going to back Moyes to bring in three or four marquee signings in the summer. After that, there'll really be no excuses and if United have a first half of the season that matches this one, he'll be sacked.
Moyes would never walk away. It's the pinnacle of any managers career. Managers don't just leave United.

i wonder if spending £70m plus on two players was wise though we could have started much of his rebuilding process with that money.

I think Mata is a decent player and will deffo make a mark in Uniteds team performances. Here's a well penned piece on Mata in the Teledaft.
good player he is but he is only good going forward if he could defend he would still be at chelsea. Man Utd still need more move back up the table next season.
