the man is a genius and will go down as the greatest ever manager. ONE of not the greatest So who's better? Sorry but I couldn't stand the sour-faced cnut or his team but credit where it's due he has won everything in football and then some. He even did it with a team full of kids.
I can't think of anyone who compares to him.
I've always thought Moyes would succeed him too and that is now odds on. Bpb Paisely Joe Fagan Jock Stein Brian Clough
It certainly could be argued that Paisey had a far better record in terms of winning the European cup than Fergy,Clough also won it twice at a provincial club. Was winning the european cup twice in 20 years really that brilliant for a club of Manchester United's resources? Debatable point but what can't be disputed is Ferguson's longevity in winning trophies from the early 1980's to the present day-nobody in English football history has a record that compares in that respect. |

| There is a rumour that Carl Fletcher is in the frame having been recommended by his previous employer as an exceptional individual. They could do worse. |

Worth pointing out that the old style European Cup was a lot easier to win than the Champions league is now. 5 in a row from Madrid, 3 in a row from Munich, Ajax and AC Milan yet nobody has ever won the Champions league twice in a row. Just look at the fixtures United had when they won in 68 and liverpool had when they won their last European cup and they probably had one difficult 2 legger and the final itself. Under the old method of league champions only United would have had just one team from Italy, Spain and Germany to worry about and would probably have won half a dozen European cups in the past 20 years rather than just the two. |

Bob Paisley comes close. Jock Stein only did it in Scotland where it was just a two horse race until Ferguson smashed the Old Firm's stranglehold and Brian Clough is probably third behing Ferguson and Clough in my book. I'm in no way a fan of Ferguson or United but if you asked anyone in the last 20 years who they would like as manager I think it would be pretty unanimous that Ferguson would be named. He won a European trophy with unfashionable Aberdeen and dominated Scottish football for 5 years or more. Then he moved to United, the biggest club in Britain by far with the biggest expectations, and they were a shambles until he totally transformed them. He talked Kevin Keegan out of a Premier League title and sat back and pissed himself while they imploded and he's done the same to Arsene Wenger over and over again. Probably his biggest achievement though is making fools of Chelsea and Man City who have had a bottomless pit of money and if he lost out to them one year he more than rectified that over the next few. David Moyes will have to pray that he's given time like Fergie was because nobody can match his achievements. United fans will need to lower their expectations from now on. |

| if you look at brian clough record he took two unfashionable clubs in Derby and Forest that where at different times rooted to the bottom of the football league and not only took both up he won the first division and created a lasting legacy that we still see today with their stadiums fan base and trophy rooms. With forest he did alot better than derby winning the european cup not once but twice in a row which is still a very tough task to acheive.
The only two things he didnt do was win the fa cup and manage England
Bob paisley won the european cup 3 times and multiple league titles. really created the liverpool dynasty of the that their fanbase still live on today. |

Very true but I think Shankly shares a lot of Paisley's credit and Ferguson has done it for so long I just think he is unrivalled. 13 league titles, 5 FA Cups, 4 league cups, 2 European cups and a cup winners cup. Plus the world club title when they had to pull out of the FA Cup. He's had loads of money to spend but he's earned the right to have big money whereas Chelsea and City spent big to become successful and still can't match him. The kids team had Beckham, Giggs, both Neville's, Scholes and Butt amongst others, all British which was the best achievement for me. |

| Thank God we don't have any games left to play or the President would be suggesting a few verses of "There's only one Alex Ferguson" in support of the poor upset fans of Man Utd |

| I like to be perverse anyway but as I was based in the city at the time his Aberdeen team beating Real Madrid in the final of the 1983 European Cup Winners Cup in Gothenburg was his career highlight for me. Back in the day when you could enjoy a pint in pubs with players. |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Plastic Janners are vomit inducing. My name is Dane, I support McDonalds, Ford cars, Microsoft, Man Utd and Dyson vacuum cleaners. There's a lovely myth that Man Utd don't spend lots of money - it's bollocks. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
