I like to learn something every day, though.

Up and coming young author I heard Razz

Is that your wife in your avatar? I'll be glad to show her a manuscript of my next book. It's a racier version of 50 shades of Grey called "Jock shags fit birds for a month"

that was taken on one of her bad day (35 year ago)

Whilst I wouldn't condone the drinking of cider (being a Real Ale man myself except for the odd glass of finest claret or a tipple of port at Xmas or a brandy after the gels have retired or a good peaty malt or even a draught Guinness if needs must and as for rum and coke.... well where do I begin) Lidl in Tavistock currently have eight (Cool half-litre bottles of Thatchers for the bargain price of £8-99.

Please don't hurt yourselves in the rush. Please make sure tcm knows.

Ooh now there's a Lidl 10 minutes walk from mine. Mind you I don't fancy walking back with a few crates.

It's a nurture thing - my mother had three specific remedies for everything - Germolene, Strepsils and spitting on her handkerchief - I've tried therapy but no joy

My gran used to say rub Vick's on your chest when you've got a cold to clear your breathing. She also said rub it into the soles of your feet so it would go up through your body.

She was stupid too - it's hereditary.

All through the winters of our childhoods, my siblings and I would, at the slightest hint of a smidge of a sniffle, have HUGE dollops of Vicks rubbed into our chests.

When it gets warm, it smells a bit like poo. Or that's how I remember it.

I have just wikipediaed 'Vicks Vapor rub' and came up with this gem:

"Vicks VapoRub creates labored breathing in ferrets because it stimulates mucus production and airway inflammation, which can have severe effects on the breathing because of the small size of their airways."

Christ! on a bike this evil stuff should taken off the market right away if only to protect the nations ferrets from wicked morons who plaster ferrets in this evil substance.

I am aware there is a growing trend for this near the end of one of our local branch lines.

Knecht thanks for sharing flower

Went to the zoo today (not mundane, although the big gorilla was a bit peed off about the weather).

Also met my new small relative, who of course is gorgeous. This one's male, unlike the others. We had a little snuggle and did some eye contact and wriggling, and then he had his tea. (Also not mundane, and indeed very exciting.)

In between, I nipped to Trago, which has certain necessities cheaper than everywhere else as long as you're nearby anyway since making a special trip would nullify the saving due to the extortionate cost of petrol innit. Bought said necessities. Also bought a box of 50 pens for £3.95.

A very good day all round.

When at home I can walk to Tragoes by going through Liverton & under the A38.

The walk under the 38 is a touch seedy in places.

Had a great day with my little boy. Went to the park and did some early Christmas shopping.

After hearing about the 25% off TU clothing on this very thread, I had a look in Sainsburys and found on the sale rail, 50% off AND then the 25% off, two really cool Nintendo t-shirts for my step-son.

One's Mario-Kart and the other has Donkey Kong and are really bright and colourful.

Originally £11 for the two of them, with the 75% off they were scratch a lot cheaper.

All thanks to Jon B and Peggy highlighting the sale. Oh and I got Nectar points innit.

I think you'll find it was me who highlighted the sale, actually. JonB just does every other discount at every other shop, supermarket and restaurant.

Mind you, they do it so often it's amazing they ever sell any clothes full price.

I like rum and coke. If you buy that diet coke with a hint of lemon you don't even need to put a slice in it. I use a pint glass, lots of ice and sip it slowlyish.

I feel I've been unfaithful to this beloved old thread by posting matters of mundanity on the main board.

Sorry. The other one was a one-off; it meant nothing. Please forgive me, it won't happen again.

If it's possible to have a middle-class Pannier Market, I think they've cracked it.

Lots of well-spoken middle-aged women sitting behind stalls, drinking tea (from proper tea-cups) reading 'Good Housekeeping', whilst not looking the slightest bit interested in actually selling anything.

There was a watch-repair stall there called 'Roger the Watchman'.

Roger the watchman lent me a nice ladylike watch to wear at a graduation ball. I found the dress (black cocktail type number) the other day, the mice liked it. It has ceased to be.

Two Hail Marys.

We all do it, though. I reckon most of my posts could be categorised as mundane. (Or at least by those who want to ignore things.)

Anyhoo ... In just seven minutes, Radio 4 Extra will be broadcasting the first of three episodes of a reading of The Silver Sword by Ian Seraillier. One of my best memories of primary school is of having this read to us when we were about eight or nine. Rather sadly, I'm really looking forward to listening to it again.

Peggy I never had the pleasure of reading the Silver sword when I was a kid, but I did see the TV version of it which back in 1957 or 58 it was back in the days when the world was black and white, Frazer Hines played the young lad.

Turned out it's a dramatisation, rather than a straight reading. Since it's for children, I can see the sense in that, although I'd prefer it to be just read.

Still good, though.

Grumpy - the world was black and white when I was a child, too. Much better.
