| i think it's safe to say that their Prosecco exports might just outweigh our fish and chips exports.
Either way the Italian economy is up there with Greece. This fella's going to be out of a job shortly.
Italy's up next in the election stakes. The EU is doomed. |

| Hallelujah there is a plan (assuming none of the 27 member states veto it). Pay more, accept freedom of movement but have no say in the running of the EU. But its better than nothing. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| My evidence is based on 60 years of life's experiences. Do you not understand the revolution that's taking place on the streets.
Some of the EU member countries have 40% youth unemployment. This is a powder keg.
An old saying. "There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come".
It's now arrived.

| Speculate all you want, Given the ham fisted manner the U.K. Has handled the process throughout, I find it highly improbable that any other government is going to be so stupid to allow another in/out plebiscite. Especially since the independent OBR has predicted an extra £60 billion of borrowing will Be required as direct result of Brexit, this was then challenged by the centre right think tank IFS for being too optimistic!!
Real wages have actually increased across the EU since the 2008 crash. All except in greece and the uk which saw a 10% drop.

This proves that you haven't been paying attention. Do you seriously think that a technocrat like Renzi will be the only leader sent packing. You can spout as many statistics as you want, it's gone past the tipping point. People are past caring, they'll go by gut instinct. It could take ten years to implode but the process has begun. The EU is dead in the water. |

| You are answering questions I never asked.
The process of disintegration has begun. An election will need to be called in Italy. The five star movement are strong favourites and, cover your eyes for this last bit, they will announce an in/out referendum.
Whilst it's not a given there is every chance it will happen. |

| One of the weekend papers was calling it QuItaly and Pasta la vista. Also talking of one major Italian bank needing 2 billion euros (I think!) to stay a float and a number of others in trouble as well.
As Rollo said five star movement and the other major party that was backing the no vote want out of the euro and the eu. _______________________________________ I'm one of the common people so says the wife! | Italy's referendum really had nothing to do with the EU and the Euro. The 'no' vote there wasn't an expression of anti-EU/euro sentiment but of anti-Renzi sentiment. The moment he said he'd resign if he lost the referendum effectively become a vote of confidence in Renzi. The Five Star Movement may have been backing a No vote but equally, the no campaign had support across the political spectrum.
On the same day, in Austria's presidential election, according to the Austrian exit poll that was released, 65% of people who voted for van der Bellen (the winner) voted for him because he is pro-EU.
Also, re: The Five Star Movement. They want a referendum on Italy's membership of the Euro, not Italy's membership of the EU. The latest poll (shock, horror, gasp) suggests Italians still majorly favour being part of the Euro, so make of that what you will. It's also worth noting that even if they make gains at the next election, it will still be difficult (not necessarily impossible) for them to form a majority government. |

| It was about reforming the state. By offering to resign should he lose Renzi turned it into a judgement on his government and the EU.
I suspect the Austrian election result was simply because Van Der Bellen was the lesser of two evils. I really wouldn't know.
There is every chance that the Five Star Movement will be invited, along with other anti EU parties, to be part of a coalition government come the next election. The Renzi referendum saw 59% vote no to changes to their constitution. Predictably the percentage vote was significantly less in Rome. It seems, once again, that the provinces are revolting. How very dare they! |

| The Five Star Movement is not anti-EU so why would they be invited to form such a government? |

| Invited is the wrong word as Italy is a republic and not a monarchy. However the point is that the movement is anti establishment, eurosceptic and have pledged to offer a in/out referendum.
'The times are a changing' applies as much to today as it did in the sixties. |

| If the revolution as you seem to believe it is, involves killing our elected public servants, hate crime against foreigners and minorities. Then you can count me out. |

| It's not unlike the Punk phenomenon mentioned on the Greg Lake thread. Everything is cyclical.
Empires fall and that's a fact. The Facebook/twitter age is merely speeding things up. |

Boy, you're some bad loser. Reducing the welfare of the nation to the result of a football match is pointless . But that's all you've got, you think you've 'won' but you've no clue what the prize is. Come back when you can tell me what it is you think you've won that hasn't been completely reduced to dust. |
