Why did we need Brent at all?
Way back when it was widely assumed that we needed a new owner in the traditional sense we were led to believe that the costs of simply running Argyle/Home Park were unsustainable for a lower league club. We needed somebody with money to back us.
Well somebody with money did back us: Plymouth City Council.
PCC essentially underwrote Brent's purchase by buying Home Park from him for £1.6m. From that money £600k went to Lombard and all the other debt was either obliterated by the CVA or deferred.
So Argyle starting anew under, say, Trust ownership could have done the same, feckin hell anybody could have done the same!, and started with £1m cash behind them.
A sensible owner would then not have budgeted for 8500 crowds. Right from the start Brent loaded unneccessary debt against the club meaning "somebody with money" had to put funding in to keep it going. Why should we be grateful for somebody bailing out his own incompetence with his own cash?
The other financial assistance PCC gave Brent was an indefinite waiver on rent and rates. Again we were told this was an unaffordable expense when in reality, again, anybody could have afforded to pay the nothing they cost.
The brutal truth, if only it had been known at the time, is that we never actually "needed" Brent in the first place and since he has been here he has contributed nothing at all in terms of hard investment, as opposed to loans, while from the very outset he had asset-stripped the club by taking the HHP land.
As every new detail from that time emerges, as every new policy is announced, as every new promise he makes falls apart (do you remember "openness and transparency"?), as every wall remains unpainted (unless AFT pays for it), as every girder corrodes, as every playing target we're after decides on elsewhere and every development building project bearing the Akkeron stamp collapses it becomes clearer and clearer that we were "saved" (if that is true in any meaningful sense at all) by a man who is either inept, desperately and continually unlucky or just plain bloody deceiving us for his own benefit.
I can't see why we should be subserviently acritical of his stewardship of Argyle or why we should do anything other than shake our heads in horror every time his name is mentioned. SFD thats an excellent piece you ought to consider putting it on freechat in my opinion. Couple posters last night I redirected to here to read it for themselves |

| What SFD really needs to do is turn up at a fans forum and confront Brent with his thesis.
Preaching to the already converted on ATD is doing nothing to further the cause. |

Presume he doesn’t want drinks chucked at him Judging by the weight Brent has put on and the 'red drinkers nose' he seems to have developed recently, I doubt he would be wanting to waste a drop.... http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/major-objection-plymouth-argyles-home-703439 Those eyes are pretty bloodshot too. |

| The nose could be a skin complaint and/or an auto immune problem. For once I actually listened to the man speak. He clearly said the roof of the grandstand now needs replacing and that the cost of that will be over and above the £5 million already earmarked for "phase one". So, as many have foretold, it won't be long before the club is digging deeper into it's credit rating or football budget/"unbudgeted income" to pay for that as well. My guess is various souls will hold a £6 million debt over the club, not the headline £4m mortgage, by the time this disaster unfolds. Putting the club into large long term debt to the owners .... and to what advantage, and whose advantage ? All coming together nicely. It's not going to end well. |

Feckin hilarious, so the £10 million "free grandstand" is now north of £6m debt for he club but it's all sustainable apparantly? When are the sheep going to wake up to the fact that the man can't be trusted? BRENTISM or the Church of poisoned mind? To be religious you need a certain amount of blind faith well feck me Nool and the sheep are fully paid up to the Pentecostal sect of free beer tomorrow and their Guru hasn't bought a round yet. |

Why can I see a Bunney then? Oh dear, be careful Hugh. If you keep seeing lop eared bunnies, it's not a good sign, Hugh. My mate Donnie Darko did, and look what happened to him. |
