| Argo need a striker than can move as quick as Jimmy and Si did in buying the Homepark freehold. Argo fans pay top money for season and matchday tickets, so lets see a striker in the green shirt thats not allergic to scoring! |

| Nice try Suffers to ignite a spark of enthusiasm/debate BUT we still have Green Jim and silent Si at the helm of the good ship Argo with it's crew of brain dead easily pleased. The greeeeeeeen armeeeeeeee are content with a season of 'consolidation' which falls right into the shysters hands. He is going to spend jack shit on investing in the squad , yes I know Carey may be on 22k a month but I would wager that is still low compared to a lot of our rivals in league 1 this season. I really hope I'm proved wrong but the ticking over culture will prevail as long as you know who hangs around. BRENT OUT |

My argument is big G, that players who have been booted out of Scunthorpe coventry motherwell doncaster etc should never be good enough to play for argo and the fans deserve to see quality at Homepark, top six crowds should equal top six budget. you as a top business guru can understand that i'm sure. |

Your right when comparing with the Argyle of 10 years ago, we're not back to that level yet and whether we ever will with the current ownership is rightly wide open to debate. As far as our budgets concerned, it's difficult to comment on it as we don't know what it is and yes it would have been great if we could sign players like Pitman for example but it's not going to happen yet. Having said that, I have to believe Adam's when he says he's satisfied with the quality of his squad and we'll soon see if Derek's right or not. By the way, it's a long time since I've been called big G, do we know each other from many moons ago. |

Seems to me that this is representative of a few things. Firstly: money. We obviously have "an amount" that we are prepared to pay and we're very reluctant to go beyond that. Well... Prudence is admirable and I have never been one to demand that we splash cash so on the "sensibly run business" side of things it is hard to be critical. We are all too aware of the potential consequences for spending recklessly and anybody who thinks that Brent will pump money in to see the club stay afloat needs their head seeing to; he'll be no keener to put his own money in than Stapleton, Todd, Gardner and Kagami turned out to be. Secondly: money. It's all about the money really. It always is and we did turn an impressive profit last year when the magic money tree suddenly appeared and dropped all of its conkers on our lawn. Once again I am not one of those who demands that we spend spend spend on the team but this continuing parsimony seems to be rather unnecessary right now. OK so we had debts to settle (one of the problems that surely follows when somebody does "pump" money in even on a small scale - the can cannot be kicked down the road indefinitely) and we have much needed infrastructure requirements. Fair enough. Thirdly: money. We're still nowhere near the SCMP 55% (is it the same in Div 1?). There must be some wiggle room. Fourthly: prestige. We've never been very high in the football pecking order but for 10 years or so now we have been punching below our weight. Promotion last season sees us on our way back to a certain extent but it is still going to require a leap of faith to assume that it is sustainable and sustained progress. The Football World is very small and insular. Everybody knows where the good vibes are and where the bad vibes are and while our vibes are probably currently OK they aren't that good. What we need is a solid statement of intent. Something concrete. Re-signing Carey was excellent but "Player Signs New Contract With Current Club" is hardly going to make the wider world sit up and take notice or change perceptions. Now that could transpire in a couple of ways: we could make a Marquee signing; we could build a new stadium... Instead of which the Marquee Signing is nowhere to be seen, the grandstand is going to be refurbed (speaking of which as pre-season begins with the refurb money having been in place for some time now we seem to have missed a couple of fallow months when we could have been getting on with it with no inconvenience to anybody) and the air of malaise as represented/created by the empty Mayflower terrace remains and the wider plan, so far as we have been allowed to see it, involves us contracting in order to expand which hardly sets pulses racing or changes wider perceptions. I don't expect, or want, us to suddenly become profligate but it would be nice to think of us as a club that was confident with where it was and was progressing but the signs are all about caution, nervousness and insecurity so it is no wonder that Scunthorpe, Coventry, Motherwell and Doncaster rejects are the level of our signings. |

| Now let me think of players who we have signed who were booted out ... Sonny B, GC10, JJ, Taylor, Sokolik, Sarcythingy .... and the cry for a 20+ goal a season striker. Didn't have one last season and were the 4th highest scorers. I'll reserve judgement for a few weeks. |

| According to Brentherald today Derek has four contracts on table either loans or out contract deals. Not transfers. I know Taylor is now injured but leaving it late isn't it to get a striker? |

| Well gone tits up in one game, I think Derek is relying on a team goal scoring contribution. I personally rate Blissett but that's not the point. Agree with your Carey comments, let's hope he stays hungry given he went missing for several games last season. |

| Oh for a striker that can bang in a few over a season. Reid did a job on that scale and Adams could well do with a like minded plaer in the mould of Reid now. Will it happen, who knows.
As stated, Adams could be seeking a more defined team effort, rather than individualism.
