Done. Thanks....
It's not over yet. I do believe in democracy but not an election based on intimidation and lies........ Big Style......!! FFS it was Camerons and Osbornes relentless scare mongering and Armageddon threats that encouraged enough people to vote Leave to spite the bastards......Intimidation and lies !! |

| Franny says the Jocks will vote for independence, that's OK then, given his track record of Mystic Megism the Union is safe.
There will be an awful lots for our Scottish brothers and sisters to think on by the time any second referendum comes around. |

The saddest part of it all will be the destruction of what we have all grown up with: Great Britain, the United Kingdom... Call it what you will.
There will be a second Scottish referendum. They will vote to leave the Union this time. That'll be the end of Great Britain although I suppose nominally the United Kingdom could survive. Northern Ireland might go too.
Cameron will go down in history as the man who called the referendum that allowed the Union to be destroyed. For a self-avowed "one nation Conservative" that is the biggest and worst failure imaginable.
UKIP will go down in history as a movement that destroyed the UK. It won't have won independence for the UK at all because what it wanted independence for won't exist any more. What it will have done is create a separate English parliament because Wales, N Ireland and Scotland will either be independent or have their own. UKIP, in efect, will have created an English Nationalist State.
We'll, us Brits that is, need a new flag, too. The Union Jack will be meaningless without the Scots being part of what it represents. Might as well just go straight to the cross of St George and bury that thing with the blue in it.
I went to sleep last night as a Plymothian, Devonian, Englishman, Briton and European and woke up to find that I am going to have the last two parts of that taken from me before long.
If, as I do, you loved GB/UK (call it what you will) and you voted Leave then you have destroyed the very thing you profess an affection for.
I'm bound to be ripped into for saying this... well fill your boots. I'm too busy mourning the death of the country that raised me to care.
You guys have not "got your country back" (not that it ever existed or was possible to get back anyway) you have torn it asunder and jumped up and down on the pieces that once constituted it to be left with a pale imitation of what once was once, truly, a great Great Britain.
That is the victory you have won. I hope you think it was worth it. You lament the possibility of Scotland leaving but were more than happy to see the entire UK swallowed up by the continuing "European unification process" as Merkel described it yesterday. Quite ironic don't you think ? |

| The Eurocrat underestimate the British people by giving us nothing in the negotiations last year. They thought we was a push over and would vote to stay in. They are now all very worry Twats. |

Seriously? I don't especially want to see a break up but if it happens, it happens. The Republic of Ireland was part of the UK once and its departure didn't seem to have a seismic impact on the remainder, unless the troubles are taken into account in a peripheral sort of way. Anyway, it's nowhere near as certain as you suggest that the vote in a second referendum would be any different from the first. There would still be a lot of issues for them to consider in making their decision and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the chance of remaining in a powerhouse economy with freedom to make decisions relevant specifically to it's own future would prove to be very tempting indeed. Surprised that someone like yourself, who rightly or wrongly I presume to hold anti imperialist views, should express such sadness at countries which were coerced into becoming part of the UK in the first place making their bid for independence. |

| I've no idea if you have ever visited the Borders (Peebles, Kelso, Thirsk, Hawick etc) it's very beautiful and worth a trip if you have not. On our side there's Berwick, Flodden Field, Coldstream and the rest of Northumbria. It's pretty much every bit as gorgeous as the Scottish side.
And I guess it has always been as picturesque but what has not always been the same is the border itself. It was marched backwards and forwards for hundreds of years by one conquering army or another. So much so that nobody took, or takes today, much notice of it. Rather like the Cornish the people of the Borders developed their own identity and are almost as loyal to the region itself as they are to either England or Scotland.
I think they were happy when England and Scotland eventually married up and the centuries of millitary action ended because they were probably very hacked off with being caught in the middle.
I don't really know whether Scotland was forced into union with England or not. It's not a period of history that I know much about but my gut feeling is that both sides were comfortable with the arrangement and, until now at least, it has stood the test of time. |

Maybe coerced was the wrong word, politicked would have been more appropriate. The fact remains though that there must be a strong independence groundswell otherwise there would have been no referendum in the first place. As I say, there's no particular desire on my part to see the union break up but if that is the wish of the Scottish people, then so be it, still don't think it would come to pass though. Agree though that Ireland could be a much more complex problem. |

| Not a sore loser LM. Just feel sorry for those who voted for something only to find out they were lied to. I wonder how they feel now. Money going to the NHS. - Is that what you thought? Whoops! Sorry. No freedom of movement/labour. - Is that what you thought? Whoops! Sorry. What will the next "misunderstanding" be over? Oh and look out...... Why would anybody wish that on anybody else? Oh the irony, it's the haves like you that couldn't give a feck about the people doing the jobs at the lower end of our economy that has bought this about, man up and deal with it. Maybe you'll have to take a pay and living budget haircut like the lower 20% of this country has in the last few years? Your bitching and whining is a joy to behold keep it up whilst the real workers of the country soldier on like they always do so that the Gaurdian reading whining cnuts can be fed, housed and their cars fixed. Now go and feck off to Europe if you don't like the country you've created. Ps. Please don't forget that your first input in this debate was telling a pensioner to feck off as hell be dead soon anyway, or was it STFU? |
