| Roy Hodgson looks dejectedPA Part of Roy Hodgson's statement: "When I arrived I was told the players would not turn up, but I have not seen that. Ray and Gary have asked me to speak on their behalf.
"They came with me as part of my coaching team and they will leave with me. I would like to thank all the supporters, staff, the FA and the fans.
"I will look back on the four years with pride. I want to thank the media for the support you have given me.
"I am sorry it will have to end this way but these things happen. I hope you will still be able to see an England team in a final of a major tournament soon." |

| Gutted.
Credit to Iceland.
They deserved their win and looked far more likely to score a 4th goal.
Being eliminated from a competition is always crap but this is like a whole different Stourbridge v Argyle level. But worse. |

| Roy had to go but it also has to be said that the players being produced by our league system are not in the same stratosphere as those coming through in most of the countries who we consider equals. Can anyone honestly say that the players on that pitch tonight [notwithstanding that they were capable of much better] could take apart a middle ranking team in such a classy and clinical way as Germany or Belgium did in the past few days? Vastly overrated all of them, blown up out of all proportion in a bloated but second rate league which relies on 65% worth of overseas players with the inevitable shortage of quality and competition, not to mention realistic management candidates. |
