| Well, that is a shock last 16 fixture. At one stage it was looking like a meeting with Portugal, but Iceland beat the odds and finished as runners-up.
Plucky little Iceland will be an interesting game and England should win this to progress to the QFs. They should raise their game for this one tbh and 2 or 3 nil to the three lions would be a fair result.

| I first heard it would be Austria but just heard the news. I think I'd rather play Portugal than Iceland, I think we'll have to play better than we have done to beat them. |

| Iceland will be tough opponents that's for sure.
On the plus side, for them, they are a genuine team and judging by the 93rd minute break that won them the Austria game when 3 players sprinted 2/3 the length of the pitch to score the winner there can be few teams fitter and we know all about how competitive Arnason is...
On the negative side their goalie looks well-dodgy and no matter how fit and strong they are surely the games will start to catch up on them and there can't be much strength in depth beyond the 1st XI, can there? (I suggest hopefully.)
And they have come through a relatively weak group... (Deliberately omits the fact that they beat Holland twice, without conceding, to qualify for the finals and only conceded 6 goals in 10 games.) |

| and the hope that we would have a team that attacks us and allows space behind the defence won't happen. This will be Slovakia Mk2 |

| In this sort of game we really need an early goal. Otherwise attack v defence again. England 72% possession, 422 completed passes, attempts 22, goals 0.
I can see extra time and penalties. |

| Kari Arnason performing like a Trojan for Iceland in the matches so far. Always thought he was a pretty good player for Argyle-quite versatile, could play at centre back or midfield. |

| It's only Iceland, not Germany. Is it the new thing to over estimate one's opposition ? What on earth is the point of that. Time to worry and dig deep is when you're up against a really good team. Iceland patently aren't that. Always, always start with your own psyche and self belief, or players start hiding. I liked Arnason's holding mid/ box to box time at Argyle, but not a patch on Nallis at 99 years of age. |

They are definitely limited but they are also definitely effective. Iceland beat Holland, twice, in qualifying and did not concede a goal in doing so. They finished ahead of Turkey in qualifying. To beat them we have to score against them and not many teams have found a way to do that... All that said we should beat them but on the day... Who knows? I just hope England realise that Arnason is a definite threat from about 45 yards and will be ready to have a pop if he gets the chance! |

I made my remarks because Iceland will ark the bus against us, I'd rather play an open team and win a proper game of football, the Iceland game will be the qualifiers all over again. Especially if Roy can't make up his mind what his best team is, maybe we could shoehorn a couple of friendlies in to help him. |
