Is a wall even needed from that far out? Wouldn't the manpower be best used elsewhere - sticking a man on both posts maybe?
OK if you did that the off-side would be negated as a defensive tactic but even if Hart had fumbled it the postman would have easily cleared the ball.
Or would the attacking team line up as a wall to both obscure vision and to give the free kick taker a target to shoot around or over? Of course it is, have you not seen Gareth Bale strike a ball? Not to mention that man on the post would more likely than not divert the ball back into the goal. The argument "we should have a man on the post" often comes up when a goal has been conceded at a corner, the counter generally is "No, the defence should have cleared the ball from the cross". It might save one goal a season, countless more are saved by not allowing an attempt on goal in the first place. Regardless of Hart, the players would have been instructed not to give away cheap free-kicks anywhere near the penalty box and then the captain goes and does it. |

.......in a typical fit of Rooney temper. Hodgson was 2 minutes away from the sack yesterday make no mistake |

Rubbish, Even my wife was calling for the same changes. Rubbish, and piles of it, to you as well sir but well done to your wife. Presumably she was pro active in suggesting the Rashford substitution too? Comon skinny I usually agree with you but Kane looked like he had lead in his shorts and did in the last game, Stirling was rubbish in both games and Roy should have made subs against Russia and we paid the price. Vardy has earnt his place in the squad and finished the season on fire we should have seen him before now. Roy's an old fart he plays too safe, young guns should be allowed to go for it. Kane is 22 and Sterling 20,which isn't exactly verging on senility. Don't agree about the subs against Russia either, the failure to win was nothing to do with that-it was the lack of quality in finishing and their keeper having a worldie that were the real causes.
By young guns I meant Vardy really, and not only did I think we should have made subs in the Russia match but so did all the football pundits at yesterday's match. Why was Kane taking shit corner after shit corner, he doesn't look on form at all. |
