And this is just Panama, does anybody seriously think that Osborne and Cameron don't know about these wheezes? It's no wonder the public purse is a little light because the people with the money are hiding it and have been doing so for years. I think the limit in cash that you can pay into banks without the authorities being alerted is £2500. These guys and girls are moving millions and billions, all in it together? LMFAO.
Another law that just seems to be used against the middling criminals is the POCA (proceeds of crime act) it can be quite brutal with criminals not only losing their ill gotten gains but the family home they have been buying for years. I'll bet you any amount of money that the most that will happen to these people is that they will pay some tax on the money that's found, it should be seized, period.

These things are probably only coming to light because there is a bit of a cold war going on currently. The wealthy elite are having a bit of a spat here there and everywhere. The FIFA/IAAF exposures are all probably part of the same thing. That, and there is probably now no human information that isn't available to sponsored hackers of various governments of differing hues. It's getting difficult to work out who's dobbing in who.
Of course, the usual suspects will be saying what a bunch of lefties the BBC are for publishing such stuff about leading lights of their ideology. All this leaking has to stop, or we'll all end up in the soup. Laughing

It did occour to me that it might be the US are going to seize some of Putins assets but then I saw this and did chuckle,
"The Daily Mail highlights the fact that among the British investors named in the documents was the late Ian Cameron, stockbroker and father of the prime minister. The paper says David Cameron will now come under "intense pressure" to abolish all the UK's tax havens."
Government in this country is a farce and has been for years. I guess porking Dave inherited his fathers wealth and it would now appear he evaded tax on some or all of it. I'm sure he'll square up the HMRC. Very Happy

Luckily Cameron is chairing an international committee on tax evasion next month so all this can be sorted out, can't wait for Panorama, got a feeling it could be followed by Camorama.

Beautiful country though and real cheap living (and dying if you're not careful) its on my list of places I may retire to, the country not the city.

No.

At the risk of being accused of ramming my lefty rhetoric down everybody's throats this tax scamming is why all the rest of the bad things happen.

Tax avoidance and tax evasion closes schools and hospitals, sacks teachers, nurses and doctors, sends our troops into battle under-equipped, makes our pensioners live in fuel poverty, our houses burn down because the fire engine is too far away to get there in time, we crash on the roads because our pot holes don't get fixed, we stand up on trains (if there is a train at all) because there's too few seats on too few trains and it reduces the chances of our police force from catching criminals. It even affects the housing we live in because we pay so much tax to cover those who don't that we often can't afford to live somewhere nicer when we would like to.

Its insidious influence pervades deeply into every last aspect of our lives: it keeps us poor so that we have to work harder and longer for less to the benefit of those who are scamming the taxman.

Everybody should be out on the streets like they were in Iceland yesterday. It is all beyond an outrage.

But it only exists and persists because we collectively permit it to do so.

Tax? I feel some days that even my bathroom productions are taxed. Late father worked and paid tax then his money was taxed again for IHT and then I invested some and get taxed on the interest (apart from IceAghs) No wonder I'm poor.

.................David Cameron's reaction to the leaked Panama Papers was to state that tax-dodging is "not morally acceptable" and then talk up a summit he's organising on tax secrecy in May.
The idea of a Tory like David Cameron organising a summit on combating tax secrecy is like a fox organising a summit on ensuring chicken safety.

And.......... Here's George !

Such a weak argument if it is actually an argument Les. I'm so bored of the stock answer from any politician that goes thus,
What does the pm think about tax evasion by Tory donors?
Under the last Labour government they evaded more tax than us.
It's a cop out and gets no where. What is ironic is that the main "Pinkoes" on this forum are as far as I can gather like me and anti establishment, not pro Labour, Libs, Kips and never Tory (I think most have that in common).
Do you support tax evasion by the people that can afford to pay it? Trickle down effect?
My sister who had to wait nearly a month for her emergency operation on her brain tumour has now had to wait three weeks for the results of histology, a process that used to take a week. This is the real cost of tax evasion and what's more Tory cuts. She has worked all her life, fought in the Gulf war (where this thing in her head probably comes from) and has since been a paramedic. All in it together like fook.

Not an argument at all mage, just a lame counter to the (mostly justified) endless Tory abuse. They're all as bad as each other imo and on the whole are in it for themselves, which is a shame for the few who genuinely care.

Wealthy Cameron is under pressure again. I mean, who on this planet thinks his father didn't bequeath any of his ill gotten to his son. Plainly ludicrous, and there's more to unravel.
Let's hope there's a deep throat out there who really wants to nail him and is able to point in the right direction. Come on you brexiteers, put your money where your mouth is, and dob him in. Trouble is, the Boris's and Farages of this world are probably at it as well. It will be interesting who comments on it, or doesn't, in the next few days.

I only posted about the HMRC debacle because it is only now being mentioned by the mainstream, 15 years later.
I do believe that the vast majority of politicians would climb into bed with the nearest millionaire hey could find. I am no Tory and certainly not a Nu Labour supporter either. The sooner the Greens get a decent foothold in the UK the better.

Absolutely spot on, Ammy.

There is no such thing as "trickledown". Not in any significant sense anyway. It's just a few crumbs that fall off the table. At best. That's all.

If this Panama business shows us anything it's that as soon as serious dosh is acquired it surges offshore

Latest on the news is that the wealthy Chinese have been smuggling their money offshore via Hong Kong then on to guess who? Monseck no less. Loads of their dosh (they were talking about hundreds of billions) are coming to blighty to buy property, mainly in London, which is overheating our property market even further. The protection of the wealthy needs to stop. If that makes me a commie then so be it.
