Bristol Rovers snap up former Plymouth Argyle and New Zealand star Rory Fallon

FORMER Plymouth Argyle striker Rory Fallon has signed on non-contract terms with Bristol Rovers.

The 33-year-old has been training with the promotion-chasing League Two club for the past month.

Fallon has not played since October 2014 following a cruciate knee ligament injury while he was at Scunthorpe United.

The 18 times-capped New Zealand international is set to be part of Rovers' squad for their away game against Accrington Stanley on

Fallon told Rovers' official website: "I had a cruciate which set me back a bit and I have worked really hard to get to this point.

"I have undertaken some great fitness work with physio Paul Maxwell, who I know from my time with Plymouth, and I feel great.

"I have had a great reception from the lads here and appreciate the fact that the gaffer (Darrell Clarke) has let me train here as it's not always easy to find a club willing to let you do that.

"This is an opportunity to come into a good squad and hopefully adding something to the squad and trying to get the team up.

"This is a great time to be part of the team. What you need is a team full of players fighting for the shirt and that way you get the best out of them.

"I'm really chomping at the bit and looking forward to going to Accrington this weekend.

"Whether I'm in the stand or on the bench or playing it doesn't matter I'm just happy to be a part of it and can't wait."

Fallon signed for Argyle from Swansea City for £300,000 in January 2007.

He went on to make a total of 102 starts and 58 substitute appearances for the Pilgrims and scored 22 goals before leaving when the club were relegated to League Two in 2011.

Rory's finest hour was scoring twice against the Turnips at Ashton Gate when Argyle won there for the first time in aeons, same game as Rab Douglas played his only game for us.My word i was rat arsed that day [and night].

BTW,did he mean that Maxwell is at Bristol Rovers now?

I thought I saw a picture of him there, as if he were involved.

Edited to add.... according to linkedin he's been at Rovers since the start of the season.

I'd like to say hell be a good signing at this level but he probably won't, that goal in the world cup was his pinnacle and monkeys and typewriters spring to mind, he had about 200 matches with argyle inc. subs appearance but only scored 22 goals, £300k well spent, that's 2 Hourihanes in new money.

Throbber from the Farm had a serious man crush on him if I remember rightly. He used to get very indignant if anyone, rightly, said he was shit.
