New ice cream trike to start serving Plymouth's waterfront
A tricycle selling hand-made artisan ice cream will be parked up on the historic cobbles of Sutton Harbour this summer.
Award-winning business The Cowlick Creamery is taking up a pitch on Quay Square this weekend, in prime position on Plymouth’s spectacular waterfront and just in time for the arrival of the first boats sailing into Britain’s Ocean City to take part in world-class international sailing event The Transat bakery this Sunday, April 24.
Run by former Plymouth Argyle player Rory Fallon and his wife Carly, The Cowlick Creamery recently relocated to Plymouth from Yorkshire and now operates from a base in Estover, supplying ice cream for weddings and events and providing a specialist wholesale service for high end restaurants, hotels, delis and fine food outlets.
Now the company is branching out to offer visitors to the city’s historic waterfront quarter a chance to try out their indulgent hand-made ice creams and sorbets, with a specially designed tricycle based in Quay Square in Sutton Harbour.
Carly Fallon said: “We’re really excited about bringing our tricycle to Sutton Harbour. There is such a lot happening in Plymouth this summer, it’s a fantastic time to be launching our tricycle, just in time for the Transat race.”
Carly and her husband Rory recently returned to Plymouth after four years away, and are back in the city where New Zealand-born Rory is a well-known figure, having played football for Plymouth Argyle from 2007 until 2011.

Rory now plays for Bristol Rovers but also helps to manage The Cowlick Creamery. Carly started the business after leaving her job as a solicitor to focus on a career in the food industry. Having re-qualified as a chef, Carly began to experiment with hand-made ice creams and sorbets and saw that there was a gap in the market for a freshly made, gourmet offering.
Winning its first award after just six months of trading, The Cowlick has been hugely successful. Amongst their customers are Michelin star restaurants both locally and in Yorkshire, where the business was launched.
Carly added: “We are all about quality and flavour at The Cowlick and we can’t wait to show people what’s on offer. Our flavours constantly change as we use fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever we can. One day, we’ll be making poached pear and local cider sorbet and the next, it’ll be Cornish sea salted caramel. Peanut butter and chocolate, lemon curd and white chocolate and raspberry are all firm favourites with customers but then our prosecco and strawberry sorbet is top of the list for our wedding customers.”
There is even a lactose-free version for dogs to enjoy, and ice creams are served in premium sugar waffle cones or tubs and spoons.
