Plymouth Argyle Eating and Drinking Locally: The Britannia in Wolseley Road, which is the local Whetherspoons outlet, appears to be the only decent pub for a drink and a meal. It’s a short 10 minute walk from the ground. Alcohol is served inside the ground and the normal football fayre is on offer. Ground Description: Home Park is now a mix of 21st century efficiency with three new stands and the beauty, elegance and craft of one of the few surviving Archibald Leitch designed grandstands of the 1930's. The stadium currently has room for around 22,000. Admission Prices: Adults £20, Concessions £15, U18s £7. Previous Meetings and Memories: March 2013 and a Jake Hyde goal was not enough in a 2-1 defeat last time we visited Home Park. The away fixture in September 2000 saw the Bees come away with a stunning 3-2 victory in front of 3,423 thanks to a brace from Tony Richards and Mark Arber. Barnet travelled to Argyle way back 1984 in the FA Cup 1st Round when the Bees were a struggling Gola League side and were beaten 3-0. Drawing a “big” name in the Cup in those days was the highlight of the season more often than not. A mighty day out was had by all and tales galore of that day could be remembered in The Hive Bar over a beer if you feel you want to know! I take no shame in reeling off the side that day full of great Barnet FC characters! Celebrity Watch: Autograph books handy? | Am really hoping for a good result on Tuesday, given it's my last day in mental health nursing and retirement is a reality. Planning to get the train down, see Argyle get a good win and then quaff as much cider as possible before getting the last train back to mutant Abbot. Happy days. COYG |

| Seeing as how I'm leaving for sunnier climes next week, I'm going to this one. That's the second visit this season Never seen Barnet play in the flesh, as it were. I like evening matches under lights, the atmosphere always seems to be different. We should win, but we all know it doesn't work like that with Argo. |

| Martin Allen says he will 'park the bus' as Barnet go to fourth-placed Plymouth Argyle in League Two on Tuesday nightBarnet boss Martin Allen has taken responsibility for the fact the Bees “have done absolutely nothing” away from home and says he will park the bus for Tuesday’s visit to Plymouth Argyle. Back-to-back home wins against Stevenage and Dagenham & Redbridge have lifted Allen’s side up to 18th in League Two but they have yet to take so much as a point away from home in four matches. And speaking to the club’s website ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Home Park, Allen shouldered the responsibility for Barnet’s poor away form this season whilst outlining his plan for facing fourth-placed Plymouth. He said: “The results away from home haven’t been good enough. The way we’ve played hasn’t been right – that’s obviously down to me, it’s my responsibility. “We haven’t picked up any points and we’ve done absolutely nothing away from home. “It’s time for a change, so tomorrow we’ll be much more cautiously. “Basically we’ll play 4-5-1, we’ll play much deeper, and we’ll ‘park the bus’ for want of a better phrase.” Allen continued, heaping praise on Pilgrims boss Derek Adams for the job he has done since succeeding John Sheridan at the helm in the su He said: “I think everybody knows that Plymouth are one of the best teams in the division. “They’ve got a manager in Derek Adams who I met a couple of months ago at a referees’ meeting. He’s a really nice bloke and he’s been very successful up in Scotland. “For me personally, I think Plymouth Argyle will be the champions of this division. “They’re very consistent, they’re very steady, and I think they’ve got the players and the tools to move through the division. They’ve also got a fantastic centre-forward in Reuben Reid. “So we all know it’s going to be a tough game. That’s why we’ve had to change it all and go with a different way of playing to how we normally play. “Really that’s out of respect to Derek and the team that he’s got together. He’s made some good acquisitions, bringing them down from Scotland.” Allen also revealed striker Kevin Lisbie, who is yet to make his Barnet debut after signing in the summer, has returned to training but will not be in contention for the visit to the West Country. “Kevin Lisbie has trained this morning, which has been a bit boost to everybody,” said Allen. “Obviously he won’t be fit for tomorrow or Saturday – but maybe for two or three weeks’ time, when he might have a little sniff of getting on the bench.” Speaking after Saturday’s win over the Daggers Allen confirmed goalkeeper Graham Stack was not yet ready to return whilst backup keeper Jamie Stephens was fully fit again but had been left in the bench as Oxford United loanee Max Crocombe had been part of a winning team a week earlier Meanwhile, defender Bira Dembele will miss the visit to Devon with a groin problem and has been granted permission to return to France for a few days to see his family. | From the outside looking in at least it would have been something of a surprise to see Plymouth Argyle and John Sheridan part company at the end of last season after losing out in the Play-Off semi-finals to Wycombe Wanderers. However, after nine games of the new League Two season the decision looks a shrewd one as new boss Derek Adams has seen the Pilgrims lose just twice to sit handsomely in fourth place – a point outside of the automatic promotion places. The Scot succeeded Sheridan in the second week of June having cut his teeth as a manager with Ross County across two separate spells. Still only 40, Adams began his managerial career with Ross County when he was appointed player-manager in November 2007. He had already made what proved to be his final playing appearance a month earlier, though, after being handed the reigns on a caretaker basis. In 2008 he led the Staggies into the Scottish First Division before reaching the 2010 Scottish Cup final – beating Celtic and Hibernian along the way – only to go down 3-0 to Dundee United in the final. Having earned his UEFA Pro Licence aged just 33, Adams left Victoria Park in 2010 to become Colin Calderwood’s assistant at Hibs. But he returned in May 2011 and in his first full season back at County he guided the side to the Scottish Premier League as First Division champions.o Adams’ side went 34 games unbeaten during the 2011/12 campaign and finished a whopping 24 points ahead of second-placed Dundee, a measure of their dominance that s Impressive finishes of fifth – one point off European football – and seventh followed before Adams left in August 2014, ten months before taking up the hot-seat at Home Park. He replaced Sheridan who, at the time of his departure, expressed a desire to work closer to his family in the north of England and exited Plymouth by mutual consent. Thus far the appointment looks inspired and Adams has seen his side as high as second in the League Two standings already this season, though they have won just one of their last four fixtures following back-to-back draws with Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Town. Two players followed Adams down to the south west from Ross County – striker Jake Jervis and attacking midfielder Graham Carey – and both have thrived since moving to the other end of the United Kingdom. Striker Jervis, formerly of Birmingham City, has already hit five goals in his first eight league starts and also netted in victory over Wimbledon in the Football League Trophy at the beginning of this month. A spate of loan spells in the Football League and briefs stays at Elazigspor and Portsmouth preceded the 24-year-old’s move to Scotland where he scored an unremarkable four league goals in 27 appearances – ten of which were starts – last season. However, despite only working under Adams for little over a month, he moved to Argyle this summer and has hit the ground running immediately. With four league goals to his name already, former Celtic midfielder Carey is just behind Jervis in the club’s scoring charts. The Blanchardstown-born number ten began his career in Ireland with Shelbourne before a move to Celtic in 2005. He managed just one league appearance – with loan spells at Bohemians, St Mirren and Huddersfield Town punctuating his six-year stay – before joining the Buddies on a permanent basis. After two seasons at St Mirren Park he linked up with Adams at Ross County in 2013 and made more than 60 appearances in all competitions before returning to England in the summer for the first time since his six-month loan at Huddersfield. | Road works
WE would like to strongly advise all supporters to leave as much time as possible when coming to Home Park on Tuesday night for our game against Barnet. A section of Outland Road - between the Post Office and Esso garage - is currently closed because of emergency sewer works, and will not be operational before Tuesday's game. Local diversions are in place, but this is impacting on a wider part of the traffic network because of the knock-on effect. With thousands heading to Home Park at a similar time on Tuesday, congestion is anticipated.
At this time, we are told by local authorities that the road is likely to be open for the Crawley game on Saturday.
However, with different, planned works to a gas main scheduled to begin the following week, supporters can expect similar delays when we meet Exeter City on Tuesday, October
Good old gas |
