| Always thought Cox has been a bit harshly treated. Cracking player for us when firing. Would have thought he's the natural choice over Simpson, but I haven't seen the latter play personally. |

| Cox did well when he came on and looked more comfortable in that role than mchugh does, mchugh is a defender and lacks the passing and pressing forward ability of Cox. Remember last season when that horrible northern man Sheridan dared to play mchugh out of position at left back for a short spell? The horrible northern man was totally slaughtered for it. His successor however plays the same defender in midfield and he's a tactical genius, not a dickie bird of criticism from anyone. Mchugh looks like a fish out of water when played in midfield, albeit defensively. Whoever plays that role needs to be able to tackle and pass and when it comes to passing he's more Davina McCall than Steve McCall. |

| I can see the need for playing mchugh in midfield away from home, but its too defensive for home games. |

So you don't agree McHugh was terrible at left back, and Sheridan was the last person at Home Park to realise it? That seemed to be the consensus this time last season - and when we switched to 3-5-2, hey presto, we no longer looked vulnerable as fook down the flanks. McHugh has had a good start to the season in that new position for me. In terms of screening the defence his heading from goal kicks/long punts is 10× what Cox's heading is. His ability to put a solid tackle in is also more than what Cox is capable of. Of course Cox's industry, energy and ability to take the ball off opponents who don't realise he is coming, make him a highly effective player too. But it isn't a total surprise DA may prefer a destroyer in front of his 2 CBs. Cox would also be a good bet to replace Boateng if anything happens to him, whereas with McHugh outside of defence, the deep defensive mid iscthe only role he can probably get away with. |

He wasn't great at LB but he did a job, certainly wasn't as bad as some have claimed. I don't think he's done a particularly good job at defensive midfield either fwiw. |

I disagree, we should pick our best 11 whenever possible in the managers favoured formation and play the same way in every match, I don't like tinkerererers, let the opposition worry about us, it's what all the best teams do. |

| I think mchugh should play centre half or not at all. Cox is a far better midfielder. |

| Mchugh was awful at leftback. Not quite a liability, but heading in that direction. I feared the worse when Adams decided to reposition him, but even then I could see what he was thinking, in that Mchugh had the best distribution of the three CBs (up against Hartley and Nelson, that's a bit of a tallest midget competition, but still.) I thought he looked out of place against Portsmouth, but has grown into role.
Cox did well when he came on. Let's hope he can find the form he had in his first spell, because he was pretty ordinary last season. |

| Boost for Plymouth Argyle over hamstring injury to midfielder Carl McHug
THE HAMSTRING injury to Plymouth Argyle midfielder Carl McHugh is not as serious as first feared, manager Derek Adams has revealed.
Adams had thought McHugh could be set for a lengthy absence, but now hopes the 22-year-old will be out of action for only a couple of weeks.
It is a boost for the Pilgrims' boss because McHugh has made a successful switch from central defence to a midfield holding role this season.
McHugh was injured early in the second half of Argyle's 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers at Home Park on Saturday
He was substituted in the 50th minute after a raised boot challenge on Rovers' midfielder Stuart Sinclair, which resulted in McHugh receiving a yellow card.
However, fears that McHugh had torn his hamstring have now been allayed.
One out of the trio of Lee Cox, Josh Simpson or Oscar Threlkeld will take over from McHugh in the starting line-up against Mansfield Town at Field Mill this Saturday.
Adams told Herald Sport: "He (McHugh) has got a hamstring injury but it's not as bad as first feared.
"We are hopeful we can have him back in maybe a couple of weeks.
"Carl has played in every game that I have managed here and I think he has been an important player for us.
"It gives somebody else an opportunity to come in and stake a claim for a place, but Carl has been magnificent since I have been here.
"He's a young boy – he's only 22 years of age – but he has got good experience and played a lot of games.
"We will miss him over the coming weeks, but we have got three guys who can all play in that position."
Threlkeld, a loan signing from Bolton Wanderers, has missed the last couple of matches because of a thigh injury.
However, the 21-year-old returned to full training on Tuesday and could come under consideration for a place against Mansfield.
Adams said: "He's looking well and we will see how he progresses later in the week if he's going to be involved for Saturday."
Threlkeld has made two substitute appearances for Argyle since arriving from Bolton at the end of August. |
