| Teddy Sheringham press conference Following Stevenage’s share of the League Two spoils at Dagenham and Redbridge, Teddy Sheringham was left adamant new Finnish recruit Jesse Joronen would not retain his place for next Saturday’s home clash with Plymouth Argyle - because he will be away on international duty. Joronen, who signed last Thursday from Championship outfit Fulham on a six-month loan deal, made his debut in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Victoria Road. It was a competent first outing for the 6’5” shotstopper, with no chance of preventing Ashley Hemmings’ piledriver hitting the net just before the half hour. However, Sheringham joked he would be turning back to veteran Chris Day at the Lamex Stadium next Saturday. Sheringham said: “He {Joronen] did alright but he won’t be playing next week.” When asked why, he added: “Because Chris Day is playing next week. No, Jesse is away on international duty next week so Chris will be playing. “Keeps you on your toes doesn’t it?” Two outfielders who could also miss the Pilgrims’ voyage are midfield duo Chris Whelpdale and Dean Parrett. Whelpdale returned to the starting line-up for the first time this season, having played 27 minutes off the bench in Boro’s 2-0 win over Hartlepool United eight days ago. However, he could only manage 50 minutes against Daggers, replaced by Tom Pett. Meanwhile, Parrett missed the trip to East London altogether and Sheringham revealed their involvement next weekend hangs in the balance. He continued: “Chris has got a problem with his ankle. I’m not actually sure what he’s got but we’ll be monitoring him this week. On Parrett, he said: “Dean has got a bad calf. Hopefully he’ll be training next week but I’m not so sure of that at the moment [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Second in league lost only once and still do not get a mention. Leyton Orient lead the way in Sky Bet League 2 as we head into the second month of the season, and they travel to Exeter City in Matchday 6. Their trip down to Devon on Saturday afternoon is one of 11 fixtures spread over two days - with Bristol Rovers and Oxford United going head-to-head on Sunday lunchtime, live on Sky Sports. Here's a full list of the weekend fixtures in Sky Bet League 2 (kick-off is 3pm unless stated): Saturday 5th September Newport County v York City (1pm) Carlisle United v Barnet (2pm) Cambridge United v Luton Town Exeter City v Leyton Orient Mansfield Town v AFC Wimbledon Northampton Town v Dagenham & Redbridge Portsmouth v Accrington Stanley Stevenage v Plymouth Argyle Wycombe Wanderers v Hartlepool United Yeovil Town v Morecambe Sunday 6th September Bristol Rovers v Oxford United (12.15pm – live on Sky Sports) Leyton Orient hold the only perfect record in The Football League, which has led to them topping the division at this early stage. Orient's bid to extend their five-game winning run comes at Exeter this weekend, where they have only scored once in their last five visits. It's third versus sixth at Adams Park on Saturday afternoon, and Wycombe will be confident mood ahead of Hartlepool's arrival having won the past seven meetings between the two. Northampton are another side who have history on their side this weekend - they play Dagenham & Redbridge and are unbeaten in all 10 Football League clashes with the Daggers, winning nine. Yeovil and Morecambe go head-to-head for the first time in The Football League, having not faced off since the 2002/03 Conference campaign. Also re-united on Saturday are Carlisle and Barnet, who haven't played each other for 10 seasons. The Sky Bet League 2 weekend comes to a close on Sunday lunchtime, when Bristol Rovers lock horns with Oxford United in front of the Sky Sports cameras. Plymouth Argyle: Devon Nation Army?
Posted on 4 September 2015 by BoroGuide
“We’re gonna fight ’em off; a Devon nation army couldn’t hold us back“: It feels like a fair while since we last turned out on our own patch, but here we are – preparing to roll out the red carpet for the visit of the hardy Janners. League Two football is back at the Lamex for the first time since Boro’ saw off Hartlepool United two weeks ago. And now another high-flyer is coming to town.
Unlike Ronnie Moore’s lot, Plymouth Argyle have kept up their strong start to the campaign going past the third game and have won four of their five league outings so far. If you must insist on bringing the Paint Pot Trophy into the deal, the Pilgrims boast a decent enough record on the road this term too – three wins from three games if you were asking, scoring at least twice in each.
Here’s what the gaffer said:
They have got maximum points from all their away games, but it is a fixture that we shouldn’t be frightened of… You’re damn right there, boss!
Yep, so it’s tougher to win games on your travels? But, come on, Plymouth have won two of their three away games down at AFC Wimbledon – hardly David doing for Goliath what Netflix did for video rental, is it? We’re now unbeaten in two ourselves and we have no convincing reason to think this one’s beyond us – but we’ll have to step it up a notch if last week is anything to go by.
OK, so a draw at Dagenham ain’t the worst thing that could happen to us this season. We were, however, maybe too generous in the time and space we gave them. It’s almost certain we’ll sport a brand new centre-midfield pairing this week, and hopefully we can take the initiative from the first T in “the referee blows his whistle and we’re underway here at the Lamex Stadium”.
The bookies are leaning towards a Pilgrims win at the moment, with our guests best priced at 13/8. Bet365 are offering 19/5 on us to complete the job, with 12/5 out there as the top price on a draw. We like the sound of Both Teams To Score with BetVictor at 20/21, with Jack Jebb down at sevens (Paddy Power) to mark his return with a goal – spectacular or simple, we don’t mind…
It’s our first match of September and, funnily enough, the last time we started a calendar month with three points was last term. In March. At home. Against Plymouth. Oh this funny ol’ game, it won’t ‘arf keep us chortling through the bitter drizzle and dark of autumn. Unless we lose… in which case we’ll be weeping gently as Green Day’s dulcet September-thingy song plays on repeat.
“And the stains comin’ from their blood tell them: Go back home“ BoroGuide’s Plymouth Argyle club profile melts in the mouth, not in your hands
