I apologise LT.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention Punchy.

Go fork yourself, you called it as you saw it, be a forking man and stand by that, wimp ass Swilly wanker.

Tisdale at his finest!!!! Geddon the Tis!lol!

I have never been able to work out why people get upset about internet banter, I met a Garg the other day who ripped into me because he thought I had posted something years ago, I told him to go check his facts, he did and, due respect, apologised, he then went on to say that he was surprised I was nothing like my "internet persona", whatever the feck that is.

People take these silly little forums far too seriously and, unfortunately, as there is no entrance exam, many of them just aren't bright enough to come even come close to understanding what the other person is actually saying.

Such is the world as it is today.

Property will make up a very large % of peoples retirement plans, certainly for my generation of 40somethings. I agree with a lot of Tis's sentiments. Long term, you'll never lose when it comes to property. I'm in the midst of transferring frozen pensions into another final salary pension. It's a feckin minefield.

I also agree with a lot of what Tis says if you've grafted all your life and aquired a few assets, good luck to you i say!

Yeh, don't get me wrong it's the path I've followed myself, just can't resist winding Tis up when the opportunity arises, at least you can have a decent row with him, made me grin the comment about most posters not understanding the other persons argument, lol.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but some people seem to be pointing a finger at the Honourable Lord Tis. Can't really understand that. Tiz has worked hard all his life and acquired some cash. What Tiz does with his cash is 100% his business. Nothing to do with anyone else one dot. If Tiz knows feck all about snail racing but decides to spend all his dosh on a snail stud to produce racing snails then so fecking what. I've been 'told' that spending all my spare dosh on kids and grandkids (funding cars as an example) is crazy. I normally reply along the lines of ''Feck off and mind your own business''

I'd only ever interfere with Lord Tiz if he used his cash to fund a 5 year contract for Clinton Morrison because if he did then he can't be of sound mind or body and must have been drugged.Laughing

Should have thought it obvious to anybody that you need some sort of border control. You cannot admit any number of anybody without limits.

Rubbish says SFD...  and he's got the stats to prove it.

That is hardly what I said. Not even close. Read it again.

Right now we have an immediate, pressing emergency situation. What works in the short term to deal with it might not work in the longer term.

Putting any exact figure on it is problematic and just like Cameron's "no ifs no buts" pledge to cut nett immigration to tens of thousands is probably completely unrealistic in terms of being deliverable.

However in the figures I posted earlier there's around 200,000 properties which have been unoccupied for over 6 months. In my book that qualifies as "long term empty". We could start there and convert a huge part of a wider problem into a part of this solution.

To be honest I am reluctant to put an actual figure out there. If I said "10" then what about those who come after who may have a need every bit as compelling - if not more so? I wouldn't like to turn somebody away just because of some arbitrary number that is adjudged by focus groups to show us as a caring country but not a soft touch. That would be as difficult as it is ridicuous. It wouldn't matter if I had not suggested 10 but 100, 1000, 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000 the same is likely to apply (maybe not with 1,000,000 but who knows?).

Unlike some, who could joyously pull the drawbridge up after themselves, I feel very uncomfortable with "I'm alright, Jack - sod you!" forming my policy on anything. I'm proud to be British but if that was our policy I wouldn't be proud of it. That isn't what being British is all about in my book. In fact I'd go as far as to say it is a betrayal.

Another figure to throw out there is that there's around 43,000 or so towns and cities in the UK. Why not place a family in each and take it from there?

Or ask each local council how many people it could cope with? Some may say none and others may say hundreds (it's a bit daft directly comparing, say, Okehampton to Birmingham after all). I quite like this idea because the refugees would be dispersed which would encourage their assimilation into our society but may not be popular with them, or even practical for us, as they'd lose any ad hoc support network that might develop. However given the situation needs must.

As Rickler keeps saying it is a huge disaster. I agree although I suspect I am interpreting his word rather more compassionately than he is - I think he sees it as a disaster for us whereas the truth of the mater is that it is a disaster for them that hardly needs to impact negatively on us at all and if we show some vision and handle it properly it could be a real longer term fillip for this country just as each definable immigration "event" has been in the past.

That said I don't think the responsibility for housing all of those in need should rest with any single country - or even solely with Europe. There's no reason that they couldn't be dispersed globally.

I trust that that addresses your question adequately.

It must still be trickling.

Anyway trickledown is a nonsense. There's not a serious economist anywhere that treats it with anything other than contempt.

So, I still haven't heard the 'right wing' answer to this present war refugee emergency, anywhere, here, or in the media. Ricks, what's the American suggestion ?
Has there been a workable suggestion that I've missed?
Serbia giving their thoughts on Islamic refugees is frankly  worrying, given that country's recent actions.

On the news earlier they were showing refugees and migrants fighting with each other.

Europe is facing one hell of a crisis now and I do think it will get any better, anytime soon.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

We now have Hungary and Croatia having a spat, I hear one country (possibly Slovenia) has installed machine guns on its border to deter (and possibly open fire on) the refugees and migrants.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Italy and Greece continue to be blighted daily, with reports suggesting that as many as 4,000 are crossing the Mediterranean each day. With many still drowning trying to make the voyage to safety.

Calais remains a growing problem for France and the UK, only today I read that a Syrian was electrocuted in the Channel Tunnel.

I hear that the USA are doing their token bit, pumping more money into the UN camps bodering Syria and will also take many thousands of those Syrians to the States. A row has broken out over there regarding a muslim jibe at a Donald Trump gig.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Sadly, the refugees and migrants will continue to flock to Europe until Europe itself finally says enough is enough and crack down on the situation (much more than at present). At the moment, people are being pushed and passed around willy-nilly. The tensions will only get worse.

Those in charge say that the crisis must be stopped at source, that the source must be tackled, but seem unwilling to put troops on the ground to do this, I am talking about Libya firstly and Syria secondly. Daesh are said to have lost some 8,000 fighters in Iraq and a British military chap has said it's only a matter of time until they are wiped out ?. However, they are still recruiting world wide and carry on regardless with their actions and warped ideology.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Russian could soon send more troops to Syria and take the fight to Daesh and the rebels fighting the Assad regime. The USA have called for talks regarding this. A US scheme to train the rebels has failed, with only a handful remaining and they are said to be useless.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

What a strange old world we live in (and on).

The reality of the housing crisis revealed, 1 million homes to be built by 2020. Fully relevant to this discussion. With the 1 million homes we will also need doctors, dentists and schools.

And don't forget our transport infrastructure which will need massive investment just to preserve the status quo.
