| If we're hitting Oscar Wilde quotes how about this one?
"No man is rich enough to buy back his past." - Oscar Wilde

| I like these
"The most tragic thing in the world is a man of genius who is not a man of honour"
"Men of genius are often dull and inert"
"Fanaticism appears where a genius surrounds himself with a whole bunch of idiots" |

| I am sure Webb hadn't even heard of Oscar Wilde until this morning when he was looking online for more quotes to fill his 500 words for next week. |

[b]Oh really? I must be on drugs because it's felt like you've done little else. You had a massive part in our club still being alive. ... I really wish I didn't have to underline that sentence, but needs must and I would really like someone to explain to me once and for all exactly what Webb did that was so instrumental in saving the club. It seems to be accepted as an article of faith in some quarters, but is there anything more to it than the old adage that if you say any old shite often enough someone will believe it?
Granted, he put a lot of work into publicity stunts like vigils, marches and whatnot, which to be fair must have been good for the morale of a lot of Greens. He was also extremely good at keeping the plight of PAFC in the press (albeit with either his mug or his name wedged in with a crowbar at every opportunity) but what did he do that fundamentally affected the eventual outcome? After all it's a matter of record that Brent expressed his interest on day one - Todd's firm even complained of being frozen out by Brendan.
So from where I'm standing it looks as though,
- Brent wanted the club; he got the club.
- Brent wanted the development land; he got the development land.
- Brent didn't want to buy the ground (too much trouble to build on?) but PCC put a spanner in the works by insisting they wouldn't buy it for him, as in their words it would be, "financial madness"; In the end Brent didn't have to buy the ground and PCC bought it for him. (For some reason it wasn't financial madness any more).
- Brent likes to get stuff for free; he got stuff for free. He didn't have to pay for any of the costs of the miraculously unfunded adminstration, or apparently even to acquire the club itself, since PCC took care of that by purchasing the stadium (see above). He even got the bonus of some free land to help with the Great Vanishing Development Scheme.
So where does Webb the Saviour come in? I can't for the life of me see how too much would have been different if Webb had been inflating his ego somewhere else. It might have meant a few more political bumps in the road for Brent to negotiate, but the man is a genius politician so I suspect if he had to he'd have found another wannabe to act as his Trojan Horse with the fanbase.
As I say I would really like to learn something concrete that he did. None of this "building relationships", "good communicator", "breeding confidence" bollocks that he's fond of coming out with, but something tangible. Agreed. I am always suspicious of people who claim to be busy but struggle to tell you what they actually do. During the whole admin saga, Webb would post updates on Pasoti where he claimed to have been on the phone all day to Brent/Ridsdale/Guilfoyle etc etc. But when you asked him what was going on he wouldn't/couldn't give you an answer - other then "lets just get over the line and save the club". If you pressed any further then he would get unpleasant and cry that he was being abused. He wasn't interested in any Argyle issue post admin and any questions about that were given short shrift. |

| Chris (we all know you can't resist a peek in here from time to time). We've never met, but might I suggest you read Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray"? It's all about a vainglorious libertine who sells his soul in a faustian pact that allows him to present a beautiful face to the world. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the truth of his corrupt and rotting amoral heart can only be seen in a portrait hidden in the boardroom attic.
Any resemblance to self-proclaimed fan leader sellouts living or dead is completely intentional. |

| "The silent majority" wow, lets bring that old chestnut out of the fire again shall we? These are meant to be the majority of Argyle fans who support Brent and his acolytes, where are they when pasoti held polls on the HHP plans? If my memory serves me correctly they were always the minority, even in the polls conducted by pasoti where most dissenters are banned so have no vote. Even with the dissenters being banned pasoti still shows a negative view towards the HHP plans, even with threads being "cleaned" of any dissent or negative viewpoint the owners and mods of pasoti cannot present a positive view, the silent majority are so silent one would be forgiven for thinking that they don't exist. Here's anther quote for Newell and the Pres. "He who laughs last laughs the loudest." Your days are numbered, you will be publicly humiliated, the underhand dealings, the illegal harvesting of data porotected details, the continuing need to try and damage the fans trust whilst now trying to join and control it, the divissive tactics used to quell dissent in your siding with the property developer owner, the removal of people's comments and opinions on not only the official site but also the Evening Herald, the snidely tweets have all been noted. When a proper paper runs with this story you will be both humiliated publicaly, no directors box will be big enough to hide in, no fan fest will cover your tracks, your charidee work admirable though it is won't be enough to save you from the shitstorm that is heading your way, I can't wait. |
