| I don't really know what we could have done to prevent each sale.
How could we stop Gosling going to Everton?
Or SEB to Wolves?
Or Norris to Ipswich?
Or Halmosi to Hull?
The easiest one to have stopped was Buzsaky to QPR because he actually wanted to stay but he was virtually driven there!
I'm sure you'll say that if we had offered them enough money they'd've stayed - and you might be right. The problem being that we were already running at a "controlled loss" before any of them went anywhere.
This is, in part, what I was referring to when I said we need to be more robust as a club. All of Argyle is a bit Mickey Mouse: the 1st XI; the reserves; the youth set-up; scouting; the commercial department; the ground... All of it.
Argyle is a good 20 years behind the pace in so many ways and, as a direct result, we'll always lose players that we might have kept. It's happened before and it'll happen again; it's how we respond to it that matters. |

| Spot on as usual Greenskin. On more than one front !
Clearly, money talks and always has done to a degree but if a club is truly ambitious they find ways to keep key players and add to them for a tilt at promotion to the top flight.
Players like Norris and the others left because not only could they get more money elsewhere but they knew Argyle were not 'going for it'. It's then an easy decision to make.
On a similar theme............... Xthrobber on the farm is still of the same mindset as the nool and blames apathetic Plymothians for not coming to HP in their droves for 2nd tier football. Greenskin has oft provided evidence of attendance figures for clubs like Hull, Swansea and a host of other comparable clubs through the ages, being no different to Argyle, like for like. Fanbases only get cemented after periods in the top flight, not Championship. Hence Norwich and Southampton now get 20+k in the 3rd tier.

| I'm as pissed off as anybody when we sell our latest bankable star, always have been, I moaned like feck when we sold all of those players, I was just saying that we need to cash in on Reid in a promotion type way BEFORE he is sold, because we know he will be. I don't need a history lesson I was there, I saw it coming just as much as the next man, like the next man I couldn't do feck all about it then and I can't now. |

| It doesn't even need that amount of seats outright, it just needs to have solid plans to increase by that size when necessary. A multi-phase build would limit the costs of an expansion and would be a far more viable option for a club that wants to pride itself of self-sufficiency and organic growth. That simply cannot be achieved if the only options are a 8million quid expansion around the horseshoe for only an extra couple thousand or a complete rebuild of the Devonport...
Complete double standards to support the mini-stand for the reason of affordability and then argue that expansion is possible despite it being in so ludicrously expensive and totally unviable. A re-hash of the plans is definitely needed, though I can't see that Brent will be able to deliver anything greater than the initial idea. |

Would he then sell the club as his escape route, stating that he has done all he can and fresh input is needed blah-blah-blah.. Most importantly, is there anyone out there that is willing to buy the club [with debt attached to it] and pump in extra cash to lift Argyle to its rightful place in the football pyramid. |

| I know it was an issue before and there were regular updates on the going rate for breeze blocks on this forum (as a big piss take), but I thought the price of blocks were coming down. Funnily enough met dear James on train at Exeter last week, was tempted to ask when he was going to build his ministand - but could'nt be arsed! Don't believe a frigging word that man says but then who does anymore? |

Indeed, that's what I meant to say really. If he can't deliver this half arsed development, how bloody good (or not so) can we anticipate the alternative to be? Genuinely hopeful he can pull something out of the bag, but as stated by others unless it looks out truly for the future of the club as a competitive football team then it ain't worth him spending more dollar drafting new plans... Worrying times off the field, thank feck it's looking half decent on it! Bring on Stevenage. |

| Its crazy to think that brainwashed avivas are pushing hard for hhp despite the club benefitting very little from it all.
Has it come to this that the likes of nool and the gang and THE Chris webb rather see a dentist taking up a large section of the ground than a decent grandstand? |

| Well it certainly looks that way.
But don't worry because according to everything we have ever been told there is no way HHP can be going ahead and if it doesn't then there's no new grandstand, no dentist, no hotel, no anything.
That's not my speculation or repeating a rumour. It's simply taking Mr Brent at his oft-repeated word: "there is no Plan B"; "either it all goes ahead or none of it does"; "there is no alternative" etc.
We've all heard the quotes, read the interviews and seen the videoes. We know the drill.
So since the Imax is being gazumped by the Bretonside cinema, there's no backer for the car park, they can't lease all of the retail units, the council is yet to sign the land over and the school is going elsewhere there's only one possible conclusion to draw: none of it is going ahead.
The question is where do we go from here and how the hell do we meet the balloon payments which, we were told, it was only possible to meet with profit generated by the new grandstand.
It's a pretty, if not unpredictable, pickle that's for sure. |

| Maybe in place of the grandstand, he'll construct [price of building materials permitting of course] a line of lighthouses and adapt them into helter skelters ? The Aviva faithful then pay to climb up the spiral staircase and receive a great view of the game, albeit briefly from the top, before rejoining the queue ! Maybe free pasties and pints could be provided for Lighthouse season ticket holders ? All the fun of the fair ! Green, black and white, of course. That would sit very nicely with my idea of a miniature railway (like the one op Trago innit). (And no more ridiculous than having a dentist and a school in a football ground. Or a cinema in a public park.) |
