Great to see the line reopened but hopefully the longer term issues won't be quietly forgotten now.I must confess to being a bit of a sceptic about the effects of climate change and global warming but those pictures of the railway being torn up were quite an eye opener. Not saying that i'm a total believer now but definitely less sceptical than previously and the fact is that Plymouth and Cornwall have been cut off from direct access to the national rail network for two months.Cameron said on his visit to the area that he "suspects" that global warming was the cause of the storms, which presumably means that he suspects that a similar incident could occur in the future. No brainer for me to reopen the basically intact Okehampton/Tavistock route-it was a line which was insanely closed in the 1960's and would solve the problem should Dawlish collapse again as well as having the bonus of reconnecting two growing towns to the network.Probably too much to ask for a bit of vision and enterprise and it would be no surprise to see no action taken but the shit would hit the fan if it happened again in the near future,so maybe the goverment will be obliged to look seriously at viable alternatives.
