| Plymouth Argyle staff finally receive all unpaid wagesTHE GREEN Taverners have finished paying wages owed to all Plymouth Argyle staff from the club’s time in administration in 2011. Despite reaching their target, the fund-raising group have pledged to continue supporting ‘the badge’. The proceeds of events such as the popular Fan Fests, which are held before games at Home Park, will be donated to organisations ‘who are in need’ within the infrastructure of Argyle. The Pilgrims spent seven months in administration during 2011 after a catastrophic financial collapse. Players and staff worked without pay to ensure Argyle’s survival before James Brent completed his rescue of the club. The Green Taverners have staged countless fund-raising events over the past couple of years. That has been with the intention of speeding up the payment of wages owed to Argyle players and staff. That aim has now been achieved, and the announcement came in a statement from Gary McGuire and Bill Kilroy, of The Green Taverners. In it, they said: “The Green Taverners are pleased to announce that all PAFC staff, who entered the accelerated payment scheme after administration, have received all payments due. “We wish to take this opportunity to thank all the fans who have supported our initiatives, either through attending our Fan Fests or directly through sponsorships, auctions and draws. “Also, we thank the PAFC staff for their patience in bearing with us through two years of fund-raising to achieve the end result. “In addition, our thanks go to PAFC, who allowed us to make these net payments through their payroll system, without involving us in the intricacies of national insurance and tax issues. “Finally, The Green Taverners intend to carry on supporting ‘the badge’ and money raised will be utilised by those organisations within the infrastructure of PAFC who are in need.” [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Massive effort. Well done.
The baton is now handed to Brent to repay the GTs or finance the quid pro quo projects he promised in lieu of the GTs help. |

| Always good to see employees paid what they are owed.... albeit years late. For fans to have to help this happen earlier than Brent and the administrators agreed to, is disgusting. Well done to the GTs for helping organise that to happen. I believe the Fans' trust has also helped out in a smaller way, so well done to them as well, and the bucketeers. In view of the comments that all future fan payments are now to go to PAFC, who are not a charitable company, I would now expect any charitable language from the green taverners to cease forthwith. We wouldn't want unsuspecting passers by thinking they are donating to a charity, would we, if the monies are going direct to Argyle. |

| It certainly will be interesting as to what is actually considered to be the "community project". My bet is also part ownership of some sort, unless there is some sneaky planning/tax wheeze going on. Such ownership might raise a few problems as control will be effected by 3 or 4 fans for money paid by 3 or 4 thousand fans. |

| As far as I remember, it is FA rules that dictate that all staff had to be paid back at the same rate or not at all. That would have meant the footballers being in the same queue. The GTs have been able to do it because they're not the club.
I still believe that if Wrathall was serious he would have put his hand in his pocket before he became a director. |

| So, all that is left to do is for the fans to dip into their pockets again and pay back the GT's via Brent!
Well done the GT's for enabling Brent to buy the club for nothing.
What a feckin con! |

What a feckin con! I don't see the logic of that. The club were bound by rules to pay employees back. That would have come from the turnstiles. All that the GTs have done is speed that process up for 'ordinary' employees. Mr Brent has promised to pay the GTs back. This will enable them to use the money as they see fit for the benefit of the club. Mind you, as I remember it, the GTs were also told they would have a space in which to continue their very successful fan-fests. |

| Yes.. The GT's have speeded up the process, but by doing so... The fans are paying twice for the priviledge.
If the GT's hadn't existed, the staff would have been paid back (eventually) through gate receipts etc... Now we have a situation where that still has to happen for Brent to pay back the GT's,
All that has happened is that many fans will have paid twice to allow Brent to escape his moral obligation of paying off the employees when he bought the club.

| Don't get it, never have - never will
I go to work to pay the bills..... if I wasn't paid, id leave. Now the owner of the company has got away without paying what is owed
the staff members at the time should have left |

| It was the previous owners of the company that didn't pay their bills (or the staff). The present club is a different company.
When asked if he was going to pay at the Special Cherry Tree Cabal Mr Brent replied "That's not how it works." And smiled.
Isn't big business interesting? And, you know, I bet there would be many people on here who would do the same thing in a similar position. |
