If that is true, Sam, then that is one loan that Brent has made to the club that is certainly a good one. He was under no obligation to hasten the payments to the ordinary staff. Hang on, I think you may have misunderstood my point. The money JB has leant is to cover the general shortfall of the club not being able to meet their payments. I wasn't saying that JB specifically loaned us money to speed up the payments of the non football staff. It's the GTs who have done that. I was just making the general point that in spite of us clearing some debt, we've taken on a lot of new debt. Sorry should have made that clearer! Sam. |

Well, the club are going to pay the GTs back at some point yeah. Not Brent out of his own pocket. Of course if the club couldn't meet those repayments then I guess Brent would be the guarantor for that debt just as he has for the staff debt. But then we'd just owe Brent that shortfall. As I said, borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. Whichever angle you look at it from, we'll be in debt for quite some time: be it to Brent, the GTs, the historical creditors or a mixture of the three. |

No. I beg to differ and I'll be very surprised if the GTs ever see any of that money again. I don't think there is any intention at all for either Argyle or Brent to pay the GTs back and nor has there ever been. Since such times as the arrangement with the GTs needed to be firmed up it has been stated that the money forwarded to the club by the GTs would eventually be ploughed back into subsequent community projects. I suppose until that happens it stays on the balance sheet as "owed" to the GTs and represents the transference of debt from being time defined to open ended so it is progress of sorts.
Exactly where this commitment to community projects will sit should Brent sell up and move on has never been made clear. It's a bit like a financial/PR booby trap awaiting the next owner (not entirely unlike the PAST&DT loan was to Brent). |

Except that it HAS to be paid back or PAFC (make that the fans) will owe a huge tax bill to HMRC. When the deal was initially struck, the GT's stated it was being structured the way it was, as to avoid the government tax and insurance payments that came with just 'giving' the money to the club to accelerate payment to the staff. Sooner or later, when the staff repayments have been made and if the GT's haven't been paid back..? HMRC is going to come visiting PAFC looking for their money! |

Apparently they are very good at moving goalposts. They're not out and out strikers, they like playing in the hole but are also useful at set pieces. |

| Any news on another striker?
Sheridan won't play Harvey and we're hardly prolific so we're badly short of options now. |

| Well its time to cream our panties folks. The latest prolific marksman has joined our ranks. Some bleddy reserve from the mighty Bury who has 3 goals to his name in the last 3 years. F**k me sideways for being underwhelmed. |

It's not Brent's debt tho, it's PAFC's debt, or whichever side company that has been set up. Although he may be the company director the debt is never a personal one, it is always credited to the company. This enables those morally astute business men/women to move debt around so that it falls under the one company which can then be insolved and magic away that debt. It's part of the reason the country is in a mess |

They only have two strikers listed in their current squad- Aiden O'Brien (Millwall) and Graham Burke (Villa). Burke was sent back by Shrewsbury last month after 3 non-scoring games and O'Brien played 9 games for Crawley last season without scoring. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Edit to add-Just seen the pasoti thread and its rumoured to be a Northern Irish striker- Caolan Lavery (another non-scoring striker who plays for Sheffield Wednesday)- [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
