I've been with my old man. I wouldn't go again. I just put it down as something that wasn't for me. Wouldn't knock it too much though I do find it slightly strange. The GTs appear to go about their business quietly and if it wasn't for the constant stream of GoS (copyright) pictures I probably wouldn't give the fanfests a second thought.

Anyway the bigger issue is a space for real fans (and not just REAL mates) in the new build.

No I have not been told to defend it but I have been advised to leave ATD which I have not done. I'm my own person, you see.

It really wasn't meant to imply anything sinister.

I've just had a few people say to me 'why bother with that site' and half-jokingly say 'stop posting with those freaks'. I haven't been threatened with a hitman or anything! Every time though I've not done so. I just used it to demonstrate that I'm my own person and just because I enjoy the fanfests does not make me 'Brent's poodle on the inside' or any other combination of such words.

I think Sam is copping a bit of unwarranted flack on this one.I know a couple of people who have been to the fanfests, ordinary punters with no political ambitions or any inclination to side with anyone in particular, essentially going for a pint and a pasty or whatever rather than engaging in any Machiavellian complexities.Does it really matter a flying feck as regards the club's future if a few people want to indulge themselves with a chorus of "Janners" on a fortnightly basis? Would seem to be a bit of guilt by rather loose association being projected in Sam's direction here,i would say that he has been far from sycophantic in recent postings on the subject of Mr Brent's stewardship and other matters related to the continuing malaise at the club.

The Pompey fans also commented about how it's nearly all old codgers who go to the fansfests, except for young Sam and the ass-licker supreme Ollie the mod.

It's a worry really that there doesn't seem to be much of a next generation of Argyle fans coming through and whilst Argyle remain absolutely shit and with no prospect of going anywhere fast then that isn't going to change.

Youngsters want excitement to rival their X-Box experiences and what they watch on Sky every day now where you can watch brilliant football from all over the world at the touch of a button. Compare that to the utter crap served up at Home Park for the last 5 or 6 years, with a big dollop of two mulleted apologies for musicans/comedians and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The "FES/FIL High Interest Family Enclosure" attracts about 20 people most games so that's not addressing the immediate issue and I doubt many teenagers are so turned on by the cheerleaders that they get out of bed, switch off porn hub and make their way down to Home Park to ogle the "beauties" on show.

The fansfest audience are on average pension age with the odd smattering of pillocks in their youth who don't feel safe in a ruffty tuffty pub so they join Mum and Dad adorning their home knitted Argyle scarf in the tent.

I'm being a bit cruel to get my point across but it is a worry and unless I've missed the Newell family soaring through the skies sometime today, the PL2 Crew isn't going to do it either unless the venture is supported in a major way by the club. It's a good idea to try and catch the youth but for me the best way would be to give schools free tickets on a regular basis for the least attractive games which would otherwise be more sparsely attended, let them have a walk around the stadium, meet the players etc. and generally given the red carpet treatment. That includes being excused the murals tour by Fatman and Robin.

If parents push their kids to join up for this venture and get them out of the bedroom, and perhaps have two players visiting local schools for an hour or two every week as well as giving the schools free tickets then it might lead to a few kids catching the bug like we all did.

Taking your kids to a fansfest where they're forced to sing along with the Janners song every week and watch wankers like Newell, Webb, Jameson et al pat themselves on the back for selling 10 Pasoti stickers is enough to put them off football for life and the danger is then they'll never go again.

The fansfest is in my opinion a brilliant initiative but the execution of it just doesn't interest me. I'd rather pull off my toe-nails with pliers and dip my bleeding toes in bleach before drinking the remaining liquid than go to the ones in their current form but that's personal taste. Same goes for the Directors Box treatment that turns on so many Argyle fans with designs on a silly hat and title, but it doesn't have to be that way. It could be targeted at a younger audience quite easily and Rick n Dave put out to grass where they should've gone in the early 80's along with Timmy Mallet and Mr Blobby.

Would it work now? Almost certainly not, but not much would while the club is where it is and with the hangers on who have pretty much free reign to wander round Home Park like they own the place. Get rid of these parasites, invest in the team and they will come, even if it's only to see the dentist Very Happy
Well said that man.

Fanfests a good idea?
I think they serve their core audience well

Could it be better?
Take a leaf out of Cardiff's book. Give the kids what they want (not tribal, yokel theme tunes) and you will have them converted forever. Surely our esteemed leader should have considered providing space for something like this in the new stand?

That really shows a massive difference between a forward thinking/progressive football club who not so long ago were no bigger or better than us and our stuck in the past/parochial football club. Yes they have far more money than us due to their premier league status but it's got nothing to do with money, it's about mindset and vision, just look at all those kids being drawn in to supporting their club with those matchday initiatives, interviews with players, computer games and god knows what else, not a mural tour or a janner song in sight(their equivalent would be a sheep shearing competition but no, i see no sheep). Our village mentality must end or we will be eternally stuck with ageing fanfesters who would look more at home in a bingo hall than at a football match and it needs to start at the top, B***t has to provide appropriate facilities like a family friendly sportsbar and other attractions in an attempt to lure new blood to the club because the football alone is sadly not good enough to do it.

Edited to add.......the bold sentence in LondonGreen's post is a link to an article about the Cardiff City matchday experience.

Now that we seem to have accepted the boxed in ministand, the major concern appears to be a fans' sports bar. Trouble is, there's only so much room available and no doubt there will be other demands on the space, other than a sports bar/ Avivafest area, which will only be used successfully for a few hours on match days. No doubt there will be designs on hiring out space for functions like sports dinners, conferences, weddings and the like ??? In my experience, trying to use a space with bar facilities for such different occasions, results in failure. A high quality facility able to attract the more up market events, cannot also be used as a public bar/social club. It doesn't work.

How about a PAFC club - similar to the Far Post where you had to be a member to get in - which could be open during the week as well as hosting clubs (like Senior Greens). There could be displays, videos, memorabilia, occasional talks by staff for the thousands of visitors expected to visit the other attractions. On match days, there could be the fansfests, which although don't rock my boat, are undeniably popular with others.
