Come on then naysayers, what would you do to increase tourism? A lot of negative assuming, no facts and sweeping incorrect statements - as usual. but it isn't and THATS the problem. Sowton industrial estate exists for that reason. I recall when I lived in Plymouth someone I worked with thought 'burgulars' would come down ere if there was one ! |

| Used to do our preseason rugby training at Whitsand. Run up and down the cliff path, practice on the sand and then finish off in the sea at the end. Great days |

| We used to drive to St Enodoc (sp) park up and walk round the golf course and Daymar bay. A flask of hot water for tea and a pastie, proper job. In the winter I used to go swimming at Whitsand, good fun but rather cold. |

| I've never played golf but hubby and his dad played there a bit and always enjoyed it. It's hubby's favorite golf course surpassed by none and he's played a fair few. |

| Interesting comment on the Herald story on Woolworths becoming a poundland. YAY !!!! - plymptonlad on Herald site wrote:
- “It's a lamentable story when everyone working in the city centre knew it was poundland months ago. The second shop was originally going to be Primark clearance however is now it is a discount sports chain.
Negotiations with Ikea and john Lewis all fell through primarily due to the questionable activities of the Plymouth City Centre Company and the huge burden on city Centre shops being forced to pay a bid levy to that company. A story not reported by the Herald due to its interests with Board members of that company. Plymouth needs a real newspaper whose journalists can publish with real freedom instead of being muzzled by this despised city centre cartel.” |

But once again janners have conspired to keep the city centre in the dark ages. |

| It is hard to fathom why, if the Brent apologists are so fond of Plymouth, they are happy for it to become the business ground for non Plymouth businesses? The business plan for Plymouth is being totally ignored in favour of brown nosing anybody who rolls up in town in a shiny car. Remember all the fuss when the property developer Heaney was going to build a cinema on our beloved car park? Not here matey was the cry, he has no money, I have yet to see any evidence that money is needed to have huge chunks of Plymouth real estate showered upon you. The shops already established in Plymouth (many since the war) are dying on their arses and we get pound land, progress my arse. |

This morning helped a workman from the Woolworth building up to the first aid ambulance near the sundial with a very bad cut to his arm. He never knew the ambulance station was there, do many on here know you be can treated by a Para medic there? |

Probably one of the best ideas Plymouth has ever had! The bicycle paramedics work out of it, brilliant. |

| Nicked from Graham Clark over yonder - Quote :
Below is a direct quote from the PCC Cabinet Report dated 3rd September 2013. James Brent was selected by PCC as the Preferred Bidder for the Civic Centre building and land (minus the Council House) after a tender following a public procurement process. Following a sale the Council would relinquish the costly annual liability of maintaining and owning the Civic Centre building, which would be passed to the new owner. The proposed sale was to be at zero consideration - that is £0 and was to be only subject to a planning approval being obtained.
No doubt the Council will be able to confirm formally whether the processes and timescales set out in the Cabinet Report have been adhered to.
"The proposal involves the transfer of the freehold interest in the Civic Centre and its rear car park (not the Council House) to the Preferred Bidder at nil consideration. The company will then apply for planning permission and listed building consent to re-develop the property. Once planning permission is achieved there is a legally binding development obligation on the developer to complete the re-development within 2 years. It will not be possible for the developer to “sit on his hands” and land-bank the property. It is anticipated that contracts will be signed this year, once the funders have completed all usual due diligence and the contract will only be conditional on obtaining planning consent. The developer will be under a legally binding obligation to diligently pursue the planning application."
Can't see any planning applications yet [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
