GOB, go back and read the first half dozen posts or so on this thread. It implies that the flying was a freebie and also that it came from the contents of the collection buckets. And that was how it was meant at the outset. However, since being put straight about who was paying that then changed to it should be donated to a worthy cause. Don't now try to make it out to have been something else because it blatantly wasn't. That isn't shit stirring it is pointing out what was obvious and how easily it got shot down. There must be heaps of shit that you can throw at the so called trough feeders without making something out of nothing at all. What's the famous line "nothing to see here so move along" and it applies very nicely to this story that isn't even a story.

Maybe you should go back and read the thread where you will read that I had already stated that my comments did not intended such an implication. I'm not sure how to make it any clearer other than to state it.

Look at Yea Man's comment. Nobody said you made the comment about the buckets but you did think it was a freebie though didn't you. And it did get shot down easily by Damon didn't it, and you did mention donating and it isn't really a story is it. I don't have to read it again but suggest you do.

No it wasn't. But you carry on anyway.

I don't think anyone is really offended by a picture of a kid with down syndrome.

It didn't really reflect well on you for posting it, though.

I think/hope you are right Mock, I'm not aware of anyone that would on ATD but then I don't know all the users of ATD. I am aware of parents that would have been offended if it was used in the context of being that of a piss take but I do not know if they use ATD or not. However there is at least one parent of a child with DS that uses pasoti so I wouldn't be surprised if he also reads ATD.

Best not to cheapen yourself in the first place I say.

This.

You may have thought the comments implied but I informed likewise, hence no longer would the words imply.

Perhaps not the time or place (but I have a reputation to keep up)......

I took exception a while ago to the Jimmy Saville jokes and to a particularly vile comment about child abuse that someone posted the other day (though, in fairness, the poster took it down almost immediately when challenged on here). As I said at the time, for a lot of my career I worked with victims of child abuse. It offended my memories of those kids and what they went through. We all have our individual boundaries.

We had controversy when Jock went off on one about disability with a load of sick abuse that anyone who knew him at all would know he was making a serious point and his actual view was the opposite of his words. We had complaints. And we also had a message from a poster on here who is a wheelchair user who pointed out that he didn't lose his sense of humour with his mobility.

As an individual I find many of the comments on here go way too far. As a mod it's sometimes hard to strike the balance between what is acceptable to me and what is acceptable to the site. On the whole the site is self-regulating. It does piss me off when someone responds to minor criticism with a load of foul abuse but that's some people....

Probably the wrong thread and probably the wrong place, but....

I agree with you but you guys are the mods, you guys set the standards. There used to be a phrase that provided ATD with a line, "acceptable within the boundaries of common decency". Now I know that's an individual thing but you guys were voted in on the basis of respect for your values, you guys are trusted to deliver what you think is for the best when it comes to moderation and if some are not happy about it they can stand in an election. Hypothetically, my opinion is that even with a slightly heavier hand each and every one of you would be voted in again because people recognise that there has to be some form of sensibility even in a state of anarchy.

There have been many times when I have thought that ATD needed a tighter line and if that line is unchecked ATD will eventually spiral downwards. A light touch now will save a heavier touch in the future.

'Tis all about opinions knecht innit. For me a decent football forum reflects the atmosphere of a lively pub. You'll have all sorts in there, some will have less decorum than others and inevitably it may go 'off' occasionally.

But it's still your local, you still go back even if you don't care much for some of the other regulars...

That's exactly how I see it as well, but just as in the pub there should be a bouncer to bang heads occasionally and bounce a few out now and again when they act the plank.

I also think there's a concern of not wanting to be like pasoti and that's understandable, and there's concern that minor regulation will take us down a similar path of eventual corruption like pasoti and maybe it will, maybe it won't. What I do know is that there's a number of factors that make ATD different from pasoti that were designed to protect it the best it can be from going down that path of corruption.

I've moved this thread to this board as it wasn't really suitable for the main board.

I blame GOB for it all, he started it with the plane banner Laughing

Ok i'll admit I was too quick to presume the plane was a special secret freebie for the superfans. lol!

A bouncer? in a local pub? Well some of us frequent an all together more sophisticated type of Inn don't you know.

I was debating whether to lock it, but decided making two decisions in one night was too much for an ATD mod Laughing

The problem is when to judge the right time to do such things. If we deleted posts, moved threads or deleted them all together then we would, by some on here, be accused of trying to turning ATD into pasoti mark 2.

We can't win what ever we do!

If I see that picture again or one similar, used as it was tonight, then I will remove it and the poster warned.

ATD does self moderate a lot of the time and when someone posts something which is out of order then that person is usually jumped on and told so.

Usually they then remove the post and take it on the chin.

Yep you're right Goaty, that's the joys of being a mod. I stick to what I said though, each and every one of you would win an election because the vast majority would understand that that there has to be a line drawn.

BTW, did you just use a Newellism? clown

That's what I mean. 99.9% of users are decent enough, the others are pasoti mods lol!

There's a show waiting to be stolen, it just needs a tweak.
