My first memories are going to reserve matches in the late 50s with my great uncle who had a season ticket in the grandstand. I wasn't allowed to go to first team matches with my grandad in the Devonport until the family had faith that I wouldn't get trampled by the crowds. No danger of that now - sadly. I had one of those rattle thingies that seem to have fallen victim to H&S standards. Happy days. The way things are going the crowd size will soon be matching those of the reserves in those days.
See my comment on another thread re the moaning about the drum.

Talking of the 1960's, good to see Duncan Neale as the half time guest, probably the highlight of the evening come to think of it.Duncan would have walked into this team in a number of different positions, very versatile and competent player.Surprised to hear him say that he's 73 now-fook me,how time flies.

Yes, remember him along with Piper, Renolyds, Lepier, the Milkman etc. As you say, where did all that time go and how much bloody have I spent at that club?

Duncan Neale used to be in digs near the Cherry Tree - with my mate's gran and Barrie Jones.

My Mum knitted me a scarf
I couldn't afford to buy one and all my mates had one. On my 16th birthday I asked for Plymouth everything, and Christmas come to that, and my bedroom was full of scarves, flags, rosettes, lampshade, alarm clock, pens, keyrings anything with Argyle on.
My walls had programmes in a lovely symmetric wave of diagonal lines and my wardrobe had Argyle t-shirts, jumpers, tracksuits you name it.
I used to think I looked smart in my cords and bottle green Argyle v-neck sweater, with a yellow Argyle t-shirt underneath. I even went to Sunderland wearing this outfit on a Far Post Club coach to Roker Park. I have an old photograph of me with Dave Smith and Stewart Houston at the team hotel in my stylish get-up

That brought a kinda sad smile to my face, my Mum spent hours knitting my first scarf (and a bobble hat) until I saved up enough from my paper round to buy a silk one!

What about those dinky little A6 size programmes, classic.

We had to embroider something on a traycloth (whatever that is) at school: I did the full Argo crest on mine.
I've also got a photo of me, mid 70s, in full kit of silky scarf round each wrist, denim waistcoat and w i d e Oxford bags with pockets on the sides of the knees.
AND I used to go to pretty much every reserves match when I first moved back home. They were a good way to spend a weekday evening: pasty in the Far Post for tea, football match, chat and a laugh, and still home early enough for a school night.

When I first went there was a turnstile between the Devonport & the railway sleepers. You had to pay to move from one to the other .
The little'uns were either sat on the bars, stood at the front or perched on the angle-irons at the back of the Deveonport & banging on the corrugated walls..
I love ATD on threads like this. My first game as a 4 year old was Jim Furnell's testimonial. Mainly Lyndhurst for me but when I fly solo to HP I like the Grandstsnd. I remember the smell as a kid of pipe smoke and Gitanes.
I reckon as an antidote to "they played for both" ATD should have "supporters memories" for each game. I love hearing about tales from various away days and home games.
We've only a couple of weeks to Fleetwood. Who's got memories of visiting Fleetwood in the 60's and 70's? Bugger.......how village
Anyway I'm leaving fair city on the sleeper tonight. Been down Jolly Jacks, said if I'd saved the club they'd give me the posh table.

I think Dufus means nikkk paid for it. Still don't see how it makes a profit for the club, unless he thinks that's what's going to attract the missing 2000 fans to each home game?

Following an excellent meeting today with Ian N and a visit to Home Park, It looks likely that FES are going to sponsor more murals. Good revenue for the club and certainly brightens the areas up ! We would love some input as to who/what you would like to see on them. Ideas ?

Open them to the public - start with a guided tour of the muriels, flags, pillar boxes, follow up with lunch (pasty and pint naturally coz we don't ever eat anything else).
I can see it now - people flocking in from all over the country - what a boost to the staff fund and Plymouth's sagging economy. If it goes well, perhaps we could even afford to get a decent manager.

Nikkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk mah aswell just buy a stake in the club and be done with it. Oh and come clean as to who he actually is and give up this silly mystery persona.
off topic but Fantastic news that companies like his will soon be stopped from charging ridiculous interest rates on loans.

The posters in the know (Nikkk, Webb etc) will do anything but specificaly answer what "Ians" role is at Argyle.
