| JonB adds nursing to his already quite extensive list of skills (nicking criminals, diplomacy, searching out and publicising bargains ...)
Meanwhile, back in Peggy world, I proved my ability as a planner and executor by remembering to get some milk. Just one pint, though: despite the ridiculous price, this should bring milk back into line with everything else on the regular shopping requirements list. Except bananas, obviously. |

| Just watched "Letters from Iwo Jima" on dvd.
I started off watching on my dvd player but that's old & crappy with no remote. I sat for over 20 minutes waiting for them to start speaking English or for subtitles to come up...... I then watched it on my computer. Ah!
Good film. |

| Invented a new meal last night. Oven baked pan roasted cauliflower and potato medley au gratin.
Not sure if I'll make it again. |

Not sure if I'll make it again. I invented something new to eat yesterday too! Chicken pieces marinaded in a tomato puree, honey, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, tumeric and paprika then cooked at gas mark 3 for 90 minutes. Served with chips. It was a bit like a home-made Nandos but loads cheaper. Very nice but a bit short of proper vegetables which is not good. I'm not sure what I'm going to have tonight yet. |

| Sounds like yours was a proper thought through bit of cooking, though, Sir F.
Mine was more of an "oh flippin eck there isn't a clean saucepan to make the sauce in and I can't be arsed to wash one up so I can't have cauliflower cheese but the cauliflower's past its best and needs to be eaten and there's nothing else in the house apart from those tins in the cupboard which I always forget about and one potato" sort of thing. |

| It was a bit ad hoc and a bit thought through. I knew that we were going to have chicken because I took it out of the freezer myself. During the day I thought I'd do it Morroccan style like something I cooked ages ago and popped into Sainsbury's to get lemon juice and paprika. When I got home and checked the recipe book I couldn't remember which of the options I was trying to recreate but they all had the spices in. I actually left out the cayenne pepper (didn't have any) and chilli powder on purpose and added the honey and tomato puree in a blinding flash of improvisational creativity. It was supposed to marinade for several hours and cook in 30 minutes but I couldn't wait that long and I just bunged it in the oven and slow cooked it instead. So it was a bit planned, a bit out of a book and a bit invented as I went along. There was some Spanish virgin olive oil and garlic in the marinade too which I forgot to mention. I small teaspoon of each spice, a good glug of oil and lemon juice enough to half cover the chicken pieces if anybody wants to give it a go. It was really gorgeous and couldn't be much easier to cook. |

| I've changed the day I take the small people to school.
This week on said journey we continued our new tradition of singing one of the Hums of Pooh, but with our own words. Most of which concern bogeys, burping and farting. |

When cider has been consumed I don't trust myself to fart and stay dry, if you know what I mean |

| Tonight I am writing a speech (for tomorrow night).
Today, I bought some stocking fillers for my boys. One of which was 'Top Dumps'. Top Trumps about poop (20% off stocking fillers in House of Fraser). |
