Was having a discussion with a friend earlier today, going through the best songs of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. The 80s bracket was the one we really couldn't agree on.
What is your favourite song of the 80s
I like The lady in red by the wonderful hobbit Chris De Burgh

More of a 70s type but my fav from the 80s is this, 3 minutes and 16 seconds in, Two Tribes. Bit like ATD really

Another Beverly Hills Cop fan eh?
I've actually still got the film soundtrack on LP (ask your dad Cobi) somewhere in the loft.

I don't believe in the 80's and people who worship the 80's as a musical nirvana are deluded and going to musical hell where the play nothing but kajagoogoo and cliff on loop besides which who needs that old chestnut of your decade is better than my decade.

The only one good thing about the 80s was Guns 'n Roses Appetite for Destruction. The rest of the 80s was shit beyond any comprehension. A decade to be forgotten.

A lot of shite around in the 80's, but there was a fair bit of good stuff like;
Anyway Knecht has mentioned Tom Waits, which makes any other suggestion redundant.

Like the ones in red. Was it Tom Waits who sung / wrote ship building?

No. "Shipbuilding" was written by Elvis Costello - he later performed it. The first version was by the magnificent Robert Wyatt, who is another of my heroes!
