I went on the Dire Straits crew tour bus for three days during their Brothers in Arms American tour. One of my best friends was the guitar tech for Jack Sonni who played rhythmn guitar for the Band during their world tour. He got to do Stings, "I want my MTV" line every night for a couple of years.

Jack's story was one of rags to riches and back to.. well... street clothes...

He was working in an indy guitar shop in Manhatten where Knopfler would check out guitars. Jack was a salesman...

After demo'ing a guitar one day, Mark said, "Got anything happening? If not... Do you want to play in the band for our upcoming word tour?

Jack... "Let me think about that".

The rest is history.

The first Dire Straits is still top for me, it was the sound track of the bar on a fridge boat to Brazil and Argentina in 1978, great trip and great album.

Paris 1919 by John Cale.

I thought I'd give it another go and it's still as crap as the last time a few years ago!

I thought Brothers In Arms was their masterpiece. Mind you, I don't think Straits made a poor album.

Dire Straits have never really done it for me, just got out of the bath, listening to Mark Radcliffe on 6 music and he played Ramble On from Led Zep 2 which has one of the greatest guitar riffs ever, brought back memories of smoke filled bed-sits, as does Led Zep 4 both influential albums for me growing up. Chameleons is class as well. Another one I have had on my i-pod lately is the New Fast Automatic Daffodils, Body Exit Mind, fantastic album.

My soundtrack in the car last night as I drove to the Cherry Tree and the ground was Rush's masterpiece, 2112. Epic.

I reckon a decent pink floyd track could be made out of Argyle's current situation.

To Neil Warnock, wish you were here.

To the squad, the lunatics are on the grass.

To Fletcher, keep talking

In general, sorrow.

In the directors box, pigs.

For James Brent, money.

I almost missed an obvious one,

The Fletcher Memorial Home, applies to most of the squad and the manager himself, who ought to reside there!
