The UK financial services industry should focus on competing with the US and Asia rather than the EU.
That's the view of the boss of Barclays for the City after Brexit.
Jes Staley told the BBC that although jobs that would have been created here have been moved to the EU, Brexit gives one of the UK's most important sectors the chance to define its own agenda.
"I think Brexit is more than likely on the positive side than on the negative side," he said.
"What the UK needs and London needs, is to make sure that the City is one of the best places, whether [it is in terms of] regulation or law or language, or talent.
"I think what London needs to be focused on is not Frankfurt or Paris, [it] needs to be focused on New York and Singapore."

Swivel eyed Loon foreshore.

In December 2019, along with 42 other leading cultural figures, Rimbaud signed a letter endorsing the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn's leadership in the 2019 general election.

Nothing unusual about TV stations interviewing Labour supporting activists. Professor John Ashton has been brought to book before while spouting off on the BBC and yet they still turn to him to push their anti Tory propaganda...

'The Redfield and Wilton poll results which show that 63 per cent think the UK's future prosperity depends more on making new free trade agreements around the world, whereas 37 per cent think it depends more on maintaining trade with the EU. The findings are a huge vote of confidence in the work of international trade secretary Liz Truss who on Friday signed a trade deal with Albania meaning that 64 have been agreed globally over the last 18 months worth £897 billion.

It also comes less than a week after Ms Truss formally put in Britain's application to join the Trans Pacific Partnership free trade area with a combined GDP of £9 trillion and including major economies like Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Speaking to the Sunday Express, Ms Truss said: "Now we're outside the EU, we can strike out into the faster-growing, more dynamic markets of the world.

"We're positioning Britain where the growth is both now and in the future, in places like India where I am today and across the Pacific and Americas. This will turbocharge our economic recovery and create high-quality jobs here at home. This is about delivering on the promise of Brexit and securing our future place in the world.

"We are stepping up as G7 President this year to rally an alliance of like-minded democracies in the fight for free and fair trade. This is Global Britain in action."

Not full fat donkey milk but the Express reports -

BRITISH chocolate favourite Cadbury is moving the production of its iconic Dairy Milk chocolate back to the UK from Germany.

It follows a £15million investment at the company's Bournville site in Birmingham. Mondelez, owner of the brand, will shift the production of 12,000 tonnes of chocolate from the continent to the UK next year.

In the 2016 Remainers predicted a huge surge in the number of companies relocating as a result of Brexit.

The move of Dairy Milk production to Britain has been welcomed by trade union's as a "vote of confidence in the UK workforce".

Britain's Merlin powered speedboat wins again as Macrons tanker still tied up at the bar.

EMMANUEL MACRON has suffered a devastating blow as a French company has announced it will give Britain priority access to its vaccine rather than France.  French start-up has received an order from the UK for 40 million doses of its vaccine this week – with London to now be given priority access to the jabs over Paris and the rest of the EU. The vaccine is expected to be in the UK by June this year but may not be available in France until 2022.

The Council President of the Pays de la Loire region has angrily blamed French President Emmanuel Macron for a missed opportunity to provide the vaccine to local people.

"France has missed the chance of 'its' own Covid vaccine."

Josephine has a bit of a problem....

'EMMANUEL MACRON's future was in doubt after the French President faced a major "dilemma" as his popularity sunk, months before he was the subject of fierce criticism for his involvement in the botched coronavirus vaccine rollout.

Mr Macron was ruthlessly attacked after he claimed the AstraZeneca vaccine seemed to be "quasi-ineffective" for those above the age of 65, a comment made just before the EU approved its usage on all adults in the bloc. The Frenchman's remark saw an already fierce dispute between AstraZeneca, the UK and the EU deepen, with the bloc demanding the pharmaceutical company divert UK-made jabs. The request was made as a manufacturing shortfall inside Europe had sent member states into panic over when their citizens would receive a vaccination.

Mr Macron risked the anger of other EU nations, as well as the bloc's drug regulator, as he said "the real problem on AstraZeneca is that it doesn't work in the way we were expecting it to".

His approval rating was already declining, and Mr Macron was expected to be firm in his handling of the coronavirus vaccination rollout particularly as France heads to the polls next year.

But with France lagging well behind nations such as the UK in terms of the number of individuals who have received the jab, two recent surveys show his popularity with the French is diminishing.'

The eu turning on themselves......

'THE European Union has been accused of declaring war on itself after Brussels launched legal action against 24 of its 27 member states for breaching obscure telecommunications regulations.

And UK-based think tank Brexit Facts4EU.org has questioned whether the bloc has a “death wish” - as well as suggesting it would be better off focusing on improving its vaccination rollout across the continent. The Commission yesterday opened infringement procedures against the countries - with together represent 94 percent of the EU’s total population - for failing to enact new rules under the European Electronic Communications Code.

In theory, the rules - with which the UK is fully compliant, despite having quit the bloc - are supposed to modernise the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications to ensure, among other things, higher standards of communication services including more efficient and accessible emergency communications.

However, Leigh Evans, spokesman for Facts4EU, suggested the draconian approach adopted by Brussels was highly indicative of its autocratic approach.

He told Express.co.uk: “Just when the EU Commission is under attack from all sides for its disastrous vaccination programme, and when its President’s job is under threat after her temporary closure of the Northern Ireland border last Friday, it goes to war with 24 of its 27 member countries by taking legal action against them. Quite extraordinary.'

More bad news for the eu that won't bee seen on the bbc....

'THE EUROPEAN UNION was left red faced after a commentator claimed the UK had become "hugely attractive to the US", as the bloc continues its civil war over the coroanvirus vaccine rollout.

Downing Street’s astonishing success in acquiring and delivering COVID-19 vaccines means more than 10 million people in the UK have received their first dose. In contrast, the EU has been floundering, especially after UK-based vaccine developer AstraZeneca revealed that it would not be able to meet the 80 million doses it had initially promised to the bloc. The EU’s rash decision to then invoke an emergency measure of the Brexit deal and prevent any unimpeded vaccine supplies entering Northern Ireland from the EU member state of the Republic of Ireland was widely condemned.

To add to the humiliation, the bloc withdrew the measure just hours later and confessed it had made a mistake.

This dramatic move also came before the EU had actually approved the vaccine, and there are still scientific spheres within the bloc which claim to have doubts over AstraZeneca’s effectiveness for those over 65.

For such events to unfold while US President Joe Biden is still settling into the White House could prove significant.

Former aide to George W Bush and commentator on US foreign policy, Peter Rough, told Express.co.uk that while the EU’s lack of success may not impact its relationship with the Biden administration, the UK’s efficiency with the vaccine rollout may make it a more appealing partner to the States.'

More good news....

'The UK and Switzerland will look to strengthen ties via a financial services pact as both countries endure tension with the EU. Brussels and London clashed during the recent debacle over coronavirus vaccines, when the EU threatened to stop the delivery of jabs into Northern Ireland. The move came after months of tense negotiations for a Brexit trade deal, in which rows over fishing, trade and regulation threatened to see the UK leave the EU without a deal. Switzerland has also been negotiating with the EU over an institutional framework agreement.
Negotiations for the partnership began in 2014, but are still to reach a formal conclusion.

This process has been marred by fallout over stock markets after the EU chose not to recognise Switzerland's equivalence in 2019.

This meant investment firms in the EU were no longer allowed to trade on the Swiss stock exchange.

Swiss Prime Minister Guy Parmelin, who at the time was economy minister, warned the EU in 2019 that Switzerland could do a deal with the UK instead, blaming Brussels' "dogmatic" approach.
He said: "We want a good solution that can win majority support, and that is not the case at the moment.

"I don't think we can wrap up this year. Our agenda and that of the EU allow a conclusion only next year at the earliest.

"I think the EU would weaken itself if it no longer cooperated with Switzerland on research.

"We are then forced to seek alternatives, perhaps along with Britain, if the EU remains dogmatic."

The Swiss have followed through on this plan, as the Government announced last month that formal talks with Bern had commenced in a bid to broker a new post-Brexit financial services agreement.'

Maybe we can get a better deal on watches and cuckoo clocks as well.

Guardian today - after accusing the UK of going too fast and being unsafe over vaccines, Ursula does a u turn.

Ursula von der Leyen admits errors in EU Covid vaccine rollout
European commission leader says bloc late to authorise jabs and ‘not where it wants to be’

“We were late to authorise,” the European commission president said. “We were too optimistic when it came to massive production, and perhaps too confident that what we ordered would actually be delivered on time. We need to ask ourselves why that is the case.”

The EU’s 27 members have so far administered at least one dose to just 4% of their collective populations, compared with 66% in Israel, 19% in the UK and 13% in the US. The deployment has been dogged by late orders, slow approval and supply setbacks.

Take that Macron! WHO says Oxford vaccine IS safe for over-65s – French slander backfires

WHO vaccine experts have recommended the AstraZeneca vaccine "even if variants are present". The health body dismissed the European Union's concerns over the vaccine. French President Emmanuel Macron previously claimed the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine at the centre of the storm appeared to be "quasi-ineffective" on people older than 65.

The WHO's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunisation has issued interim recommendations on the vaccine, saying that the jab could be given to people aged 18 and above "without an upper age limit".

"That means people over the age of 65 years of age should be given the vaccination," Dr Alejandro Cravioto, chairman of the advisory group, told a press briefing.

Feck 'em. The Spanish themselves ceded Gibraltar to Britain in the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht. In a referendum in 2002 the people of Gibraltar rejected a joint sovereignty proposal on which Spain and Britain were said to have reached some sort of an agreement. So much for Spanish gratitude after Wellington's army Kicked Napoleon's brother Joseph off the Spanish throne in 1813.

In the meantime the Spanish aren't over keen to return Ceuta and Melilla to Moroccan Rule.....

Like you say no way will they give up Cueta and Melilla. Cueta is crazy passed thought there a couple of times it's like a massive market with thousands of Morroccans pouring over the border every day with trolleys, backpacks and cars to load up with Nappies, detergent, bog roll in fact anything that isn't manufactured in Morrocco. It's a masssive business and must be worth many millions of Euros every year.

Macron is a jumped-up little squirt.

On another matter I see the French have sent a delegation to Washington DC in an attempt to have the NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (Lt General Tim Radford of the British Army) replaced by a Frenchman.
